o Local and Issued Permit E. D. Scrip ter, 729 West Fourth st., was is sued a building permit to erect a $3,500 residence yesterday. Vehicles Collide Margaret Van Lard, Grants Pass, and Settle Sloan, -Jacksonville, were drivers of vehicles which col lided shortly after noon yester day on Highway 99 at Elk City. Damage to the two vehicles was minor and there were no injur ies, state police said. Visitors Leave Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Haines, Ventura, Calif., who visited here with Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Schuler, 19 Will amette a, left the first of the week for their home. During their visit they made trips to Crater lake, the Oregon caves and Crescent City, Calif. The Haines were neighbors of Mrs. Schuler 40 years ago in Chicago. Sister Leaves r Mrs. Hazel Sharp, Portland, left this morn ing after being here for a week with her sister, Miss Lotus Eaton, 825 South Peach st. Miss Eaton is OonvaleSing from major sur gery which she underwent re cently at Sacred Heart hospital. She is an industrial nurse and is a member of the stJe board of Oregon State Nurses associ ation. Miss Eaton also is active in Medford civic groups. Another sister, Miss Gladys Eaton, a nurse at the Physicians and Sur geons hospital, Portland, was here for two weeks during Miss Eaton's surgery and post-operative convalescence. He received the training tinder the GI bill. Huston is a graduate of the Crook county high school at Prineville, and now is em ployed as an engineer street in spector for the Oregon State highway department in Medford. Make Trip Mr. and Mrs. Mel Krows, 1215 East Main St., re turned this week from a trip to the Tule Lake Lava beds and caves, through Modoc county to Lassen park and Burney falls in Shasta county. They had planned to visit in the park but it was closed for the winter. Near Adin in Modoc county the Krows' car was struck by lightning during a storm. No damage resulted to the occupants or the car, they reported. At Sacred Heart Four new medical patients were reported today at Sacred Heart hospital: They are Malcolm Jones, 712 West 11th st.; Mrs. Ora Rusk, 412 Palm st.; De Wayne Gier, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gier, 2902 North Pacific highway; and Beverly Tooley, 2725 Elliott st. Business' Name Assumed The business name, Ashland Medical Laboratory, has been as sumed by Rex C. Demo, Ash land, according to county clerk's records. Inspections City Fire Mar shal Truman Nelson reported the inspection of a public garage, an apartment house and four business occupancies yesterday. Eight orders were issued for correction of fire hazards. . Tricycle Found Kathleen L. Sparling, 305 Beatty st., report ed to city police Thursday that a tricycle had been on her lawn for the past three days. The tri cycle is grey in color and has a chain drive. Cattle Missing William A. Darling, route 2, box 230, Cen tral Point, reported to Jackson county sheriff's office Wednes day that five cattle are missing from his ranch. They are known to have been gone since Oct. 1. It is believed they were stolen. Permits Issued A building permit has been issued to Wil liam K. McLaren, 2180 Capital ave.,. to erect a residence costing $8,000. A permit was also issued to Greyhound Bus lines, 202 North Bartlett st. to repair fire damage amounting to $3,000. At Osteopathic Mrs. Rose Gilliland, 16 Corning ct., was admitted about noon Thursday to Osteopathic hospital for treat ment of a shoulder dislocation received in a fall, attendants re ported today. Mrs. William Mc Donough, Jacksonville, had ma jor surgery there Thursday. To Portland Medford Coun cilman and Mrs. Paul Meyers plan to attend the 30th anniver sary convention of the League of Oregon Cities in Portland ear ly next week. They are among several city representatives who plan to attend the three-day convention. Others attending were listed previously. Accident An accident Thurs day morning at the corner of Summit ave. and Clark st. in volved cars driven by Roger Keith Hobbs, 424 South Grape st., and Eugene Nelson Mee, 602 North Rierside ave., city police reported. Mee was cited for hav ing an expired operator's license. No one was injured. At Conference Leslie Rob ertson, manager of Robertson School of Business, has returned from Yakima, Wash., where he attended a Pacific Northwest Business Schools conference. Purpose of the session was to formulate plans for an annual spring meeting with a teachers' workshop. Party Saturday Phoenix Presbyterian church will hold a family night party Saturday, Oct. 22,"" at the church. The event will be a costume party in the Halloween theme, and those attending are asked to wear either Halloween or hard times costumes. The party is set for 7:30 p.m. Football Films Motion pic tures of the Oregon-California football game, obtained from University of Oregon by rill Peek, will be shown at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rogue Valley Coun try club. Ronal Spry has moved here from Mitchell, S.D., to take over duties as administrative, supply and maintenance tech nician for Company A, one of Medford's two National Guard companies. Sergeant and Mrs. Spry and their two children now make their home at 1021 West Ninth st In Mitchell, he was a shop clerk in the state maintenance shop and a member of a National Guard ordnance company. Pre viously he served three years with a South Dakota National Guard combat team, two of the years on active duty, one of them in Alaska. Anyone interested in National Guard service can call Sergeant Spry at the Medford armory, or at Medford 2-4323. IN EXERCISE Sgt. First Class John L. Bragg, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Bragg, 801 East Main st., is scheduled to participate in Exer cise Sage Brush, the largest joint Army-Air Force maneuver since World War II. Sergeant Bragg, who entered the Army in 1947, is regularly stationed at Ft. Hood, Tex., as an ammunition storage specialist in the 575th ordnance company. His decora tions include the Good conduct medal and the UN and Korean service ribbons. His wife, Doro thy, lives at Kempner, Tex. HOME ON LEAVE Carl Wesley Hall, seaman ap prentice, U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hall, route 2, box 202-D, Central Point, arrived home Wednesday for two weeks recruit leave from the Naval training center in San Diego. When his leave expires Hall will report to storekeeper's school in San Diego for 13 weeks of instruction. Obituaries JESSE BYNUM Funeral services for Jesse B. Bynum, 75, who died Wednes day at a local hospital, will be held at Perl funeral home Satur day at 10 a.m. with the Rev. The site chosen for the next year convention auto matically serves as president. Convention delegates at Reeds port recently selected Rogue River High school as vice-president as a result of an outstand ing contribution to the conven tion by delegates. Rogue River delegates included Bill Weaver, Gary Phillips, Lawrence Wag ner, Fred Hopper and Myrna Towse. The Rogue River group acted as moderator for a discussion on "How can the student council improve scholarship."
