Speculation Continues
In Princess-Townsend
Romance in Britain
London (U.R) Duty called
Princess Margaret agafti today.
And for the second day, Group
Capt. Peter Townsend went
horseback riding at Epsom. They
had not seen each other since
Tuesday night.
But there was enough under
surface activity to keep romantic
Britons speculating about the
progress of their courtship.
Attorney General Called
Prime Minister Anthony Eden
called his attorney general from
a courtroom ' appearance, appar
ently to give urgent advice to
the Cabinet. It immediately was
speculated that the advice might
have to do with legal steps nec
essary if Margaret does decide
she will override opposition
from church and family and
marry Townsend.
The Rev. C. O. Rhodes, editor
of the ghurch of England news
paper, wrote in a dispatch for
the United Press that the church
itself is divided on whether , a
divorced person, such as Town
send, might remarry.
Clergy Divided
He said a recent opinion poll
showed that nearly half the
clergy disapprove of the convo
cation which says "the church
should not allow the use of the
marriage service in the case of
anyone who has a partner still
living."
"They would marry in church
persons who have been through
the divorce courts if the circum
stances warranted this."
Presumably Townsend, who
was the innocent partner in his
divorce, would fit these "circumstances."

here yesterday under conditions
that led a coroner to believe he

Two Persons Hurt
In One-Car Crash
At Bybee Corner
Two persons were hurt, neith
er seriously, in a one-car acci
dent at Bvhee rnrnpr nn the
Jacksonville highway yesterday
at about 3:05 p.m., state police
reported.
Geoffrey David Hein,' 17, of
704 Hamilton st., was driver of
the car, police said. He told
officers he was westbound at
about 50 miles per hour and
that the right front tire blew
out just as he rounded the curve.
He lost control of the car, which
went into Jackson creek, land
ing right side up. . ...
Two Hospitalised

service were two passengers,

those injured were in good con
dition today. ;
There were no injuries result
ing from another accident which
involved three vehicles, police
said. They were a pickup driven
by Robert Stanley Chase, 29,
route 2, box 80, Central Point;
a log truck driven by Floyd
Donald Doland Jr., 26, of 375
South Central ave., and a car
driven by John Arleigh Heath,
54, box 852, Central Point, offi
cers reported.
Attempts To Pass
The accident report said
Heath attempted to pass the
truck just as the nickun an.
proached from the other direc
tion, and the car sideswiped both
other vehicles. Damage was
minor. The accident occurred
at about 9:25 p.m. Tuesday on
Table Rock rd. near Hammrick
rd. ;
Heath was cited by the inves
tigating officer for passing with
insufficient clearance, and Chase
was cited for not having an
operator's license in his posses
sion, officers said.

Target at Portland
Portland (U.R) Police Chief
Jim Purcell Jr., today promised
a crackdown on distribution
here of lewd writings and photographs.
Purcell and vice squad offi
cers - last night confiscated a
large amount of such material
from a Second avenue book
store. The police chief said it
was only one of a number of
stores which would be searched
in the next few days. He said
he had received information
several months ago that porno
graphic material was circulating
in city schools and added "the
condition may still . exist." .

Driver of Runaway Truck-Trailer Faces Manslaughter Charge
Cumberland, Md. (U.R)
Authorities said today the driver
of a runaway truck which
smashed into a -dump truck and
an automobile, killing five per
sons, near here Wednesday will
be charged with manslaughter.
Paul S. Myers, 25, Dover, Pa.,
who was the only survivor of
the grissly accident in heavily
populated suburb of La Vale was
scheduled to be taken before
a trial magistrate today to be
booked on a charge of man
slaughter with a motor vehicle.
Repaired With Tape
Police said they were investi
gating reports that a damaged
airline repaired with friction
tape caused the brakes on My
ers' tractor-trailer, loaded with
sheet aluminum to fail as he de
cended Bib Savage mountain on
U.S. Route 40 near Frostburg,
five miles west of here.
Myers said he "prayed to God
. . . that someone would think
to call state police and have
them try to get the road cleared"
as the rig roared down a long
grade through Frostburg's main

Driver Decapitated
The driver of the dump truck,
Samuel A. Brenneman, 29, of
Springs, Pa., was decapitated in
the collision, apparently by a
sheet aluminum from the truck
load. The other four victims died
in their flaming car. Myers
walked away from the tangled
wreckage of the three vehicles
with only minor injuries.
The occupants, of the car, all
badly burned, were identified as
Clifford P. Fearer, 38, assistant
manager of Cumberland Steel
Co.; Nellie Thomas, 31, payroll
clerk and cashier at the Buchan
