(U.R) America is a woman's country, a London woman who heads three war brides' associations said on a visit here. "I'm amazed at the partner ship of husband and wife in America," Mrs. Rose Buckner said. "Why, American husbands even help their wives do dishes and there's not a thing wrong with it. England is a man's county, you know. We suit the husband first." Mrs. Buckner said she be lieves English women may some day enjoy the same relationship with their husbands that Amer ican women do "but it'll t;ike time." The musical-play will be presented at the Cra terian theater under the auspices of Medford branch, American Association of University Women, with performances at 1:45 and 3:30 p.m. A dramatization of an old fairy tale by Grimm, the story relates how Boniface, the AAUW Director To Speak for Medford Branch Mrs. C. D. Winston, Ashland, vice-president of the North Pa cific region, American Associa tion of University Women, will be guest speaker at a meeting of the Medford branch Wednes day, October 19, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Stuart McQueen, 2136 Hillcrest road. Mrs. Harry Poston, education chairman, in charge of the pro gram for the meeting, states Mrs. Winston's subject will be "Perspective in AAUW." In ad dition she will report on the recent biennial convention of the Association held in Los An geles. Mrs. Winston, registrar and dean of women at Southern Ore gon college, Ashland, was a featured speaker at both the recent Washington and Oregon state board meetings and re turned in September from a trip to Canada where she repre sented the American Associa tion at the triennial meeting of the Canadian Federation of Uni versity Women in Toronto. Hostesses for the event will be Mrs. Ernest Kennedy, chair man, assisted by Mrs. Lester Stinson, Mrs. W. E. Hersher, Mrs. George Johns, Mrs. Sam Taylor and Miss Anna May. Medford Bridge Club Announces Winners Winners have been announced for the Tuesday evening session of the Medford Duplicate Bridge club. Five tables were in play and the Howell system was used. Mrs. W. J. Kennedy and B. L. Sanderson scored 68 points; Mrs. Al Gilhousen and Asa Kimball, 62; John Solheim and Arthur Grow, 56Vi; and tieing for fourth were Mrs. Delph Phipps and Mrs. Marrs Gibbons with Mrs. R. Water X 1 :::rJs CHAPMAN JEWELERS Goldy Building Children's Play To Be Tuesday x At Craterian "The Bremen Town Mu sicians," a musical stage show for children, will be presented this week on Tuesday afternoon at the Craterian theater. Two matinees will be given to accom odate the children, the first show to begin at 1:45 p.m. and the second matinee at 3:30 p.m. The first show will be for first and second grade children and for children from outlying schools. The second matinee will be for children in third through sixth grades. Mothers of the children also may attend. Mrs. Jack Lewis, school tick et chairman, has asked that par ents arrange for tickets Mon day noon when American Asso ciation of University Women members will be at each city school to sell the tickets. Children will be excused from school, AAUW workers state, if the student is given a written note of permission by the par ents. If any tickets are left they will be sold Tuesday during the noon hour before the performance. The play is an annual one spon sored by AAUW and is presented by members of the Children's Theater of the West. Actors play ing the roles are young college donkey, is really a handsome prince bewitch ed in his youth. He regains his kingdom with the help of his friends, Madame Follin, lhe J cat, Mr. Wiggers, the dog, and Jerome, the rooster. The lively plot contains music, fights with robbers and solving of a riddle, the key to which transforms lhe donkey into Prince Frederick of Bremenwald. Food, Alcoholism Topic for Speaker At Union Meeting Mrs. Harlan Bosworth Jr. spoke, to Woman's Christian Temperance union members Thursday afternoon regarding living foods, nutrition and alco holism. Devotions were led by Mrs. Donna Taylor. Solos were fur nished by Mrs. William McAllis ter accompanied by Mrs. George Maddox. Guests included Mrs. Mabel Lowther and Mrs. Minnie Sams, both of Ashland, and Mrs. May Porter, Grants Pass. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Mabel Houck and were in keeping with the topic. Mrs. Guy Cox, president; Mrs. G. O. San den, vice-president, and Mrs. Houck, who is corresponding sec retary, arranged for the pro gram. The group plans a rummage sale in late October and mem bers and friends are asked to donate articles for the sale. graduate actors and all are mu sicians. Songs used are written for the play. The play, a fairy tale by Grimm, concerns Boniface, a i donkey, "the hero," which event ually becomes a prince. A preview of the musical fairy tale will be given on the Val Rogue show over KBES-TV Mon day at 4:30 p.m., by Miss Mac cine Titus, assistant librarian and staff artist at the Medford Pub lic library.
