Nixon's. Mrs. Eisenhower made public her pet recipe for the pie in the new "extra special" 1955 Con gressional Club Cookbook out todav. The wife of the vice- president chose nut bread. The bipartisan culinary work also boasts personally handwrit ten favorites of almost 400 Con eressional. court, and cabinet wives more concerned with cook ery than politics. Mrs. Eisenhower s recipe is the only one not personally hand written. The printer makes photographic copies. She signed her recipe, but the ingredients and directions are written on a new White House script type writer less personal but in some canes more readable than some of the) other famous kitchen secrets Here's how Mrs. Eisenhower makes her pumpkin chiffon pie: Combine three beaten egg yolks; three-fourths of a cup brown sugar; IVz cups cooked pumpkin; one-half cup milk; one- half tsp. salt; one tsp. cinnamon and one-half tsp. nutmeg. Cook in double boiler until thick, stir- ti rt rt Anetanrlw u tr an. velope Knox gelatin in cold water; stir into hot mixture. Chill until partly set Beat three egg whites, and one-fourth cup gran ulated sugar, and beat stiff. Fold into gelatin mixture, pour into pie shell and chill until set. Garn ish with whipped cream. National Day , To Be Observed By Grandmothers Rogue chapter of Grandmoth ers' club planned an observance of National Grandmother's day during the last meeting of the chapter, held at the home of Mrs. C. R. Alexander on Almond street. The day is set for Sun day, October 9, and the group will meet at First Methodist church to attend the 11 a.m. service. It was announced at the meet ing that the national conven tion would be held at Houston, Tex., October 9 to 13, cwith ses sions in the Sharmock hotel. The club presented a quilt made by members to Mrs. Mabel Carr for her daughter, who re cently lost her home by fire. Mrs. H. G. Wilson, a state di rector, made the presentation. The meeting followed dessert. A birthday cake was served in celebration of the birthday an niversaries of five members. Seven guests were present. The three made a trip north from Medford by way of Crater lake, central Oregon, the Columbia river high way and 99 Highway through Washington, continuing to Vic toria and Vancouver, B. C, by way of Hood canal in western Washington. Saturday morning the Kookes. left for California and planned to visit Yosemite and other Cali fornia parks en route to Los Angeles. It was the couple's first trip west and they expressed de light over the Oregon and Wash ington scenery. Priest Speaks For Meeting of a Medford Group The Rev. Robert J. Tomisser, assistant parish' priest of Sacred Heart Catholic church, spoke on "Roman Catholicism" for Alpha Lambda chapter, Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, at the last meet ing. s e He exhibited vestments and his chalice, explaining that each priest designs his own chalice. The one designed by the Rev. Mr. Tomisser was handmade by a German silversmith. Fisher. o Students Enroll For Fall Terms Two Medford students have returned to Washington State college, Pullman, to continue their work in the School of Vet erinary Medicine there. Bill Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Hess, 244 Vancouver ave., is a senior in. the veterinary school and Douglas Philips, son of Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Philips, Big Boulder orchard, is enrolled for his fourth year of collegiate study and his second year in the veterinary school. The Philips' second son, Craig, has returned to the University of Oregon for his sophomore year. Young Hess spent the summer working in a large veterinary hospital and animal shelter in San Francisco, and young Phil ips worked with his father here. Home Management Specialist Advises On Wallpaper Cleaning Madison, Wis. (U.R) Each of the three basic types of wall paper for kitchen and bathroom has' its own cleaning needs. Kafherine Bailey, home man agement specialist at the Uni versity of Wisconsin, said ordin ary wallpaper cannot be washed because the colors may run when it's wet. It can be cleaned once with dough wallpaper cleaner. But it is better to re paper, when walls of this kind are badly soiled. Light stains can be removed from so-called "washable" wall paper with a sponge and clear water. But the whole wall can not be washed. A dough cleaner can be used on the whole sur- "Scrubable" wallpaper can be washed with a mild soap and water solution because of its special finish. Coated fabrics, resembling oil cloth, need the least care as a wall covering, although they are more expensive. - UP I Reservations Open For Temple Event Reservations for a luncheon planned by Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile on Satur day, October 8, must be made no later than Wednesday, Octo ber 5, it was announced this morning.
