(International) t ; Gloria Swanson Develops Suicide Complex After Driving on Streets of Rome, Paris By GLORIA SWANSON Written for United Presi Paris (U.R) I think I have developed a suicide complex be cause I have been driving (rac ing is a better word for it) in Rome and now Paris. If you have not been in eith er of these capitals I can assure you that all the streets are used as race tracks because all the drivers believe themselves to be either Earney Oldfield or Mal comb Campbell Jr., depending on their age. , . My hotel in Rome was On a hill and a curved street (in rac ing terms a "hard bend") and this is where the racers (drivers) try to make the turns on the fewest number of wheels at tne same time using both the right hand side of the road and the left, as in England, if neces sary. When I inquired why every body was not in the hospital or in a neck-brace, I was told that the Italians have the best brakes in the world! In Paris I live only a short distance from the Arc de Triomphe around which I must drive to reach the street in which I live. This sounds simple, but it presents a dangerous problem because there are at least 10 other streets leading off Speaker Sees City As Medical Center "There Is no reason why Med ford could not be the Rochester of southern Oregon," Herbert Hunter, local medical illustrator, declared yesterday in a talk to members of Medford Kiwanis club. Hunter spoke of the possibil ity of Medford becoming the medical center for this area. His reference to Rochester, Minn., pointed to the Mayo clinic. He told of his illustrating work and how drawings make details of a surgeon's operations explicit and available in clear form for the benefit of "other doctors. Hunter said that an artist can bring out details that photo graphs won't show and can pic ture operations in a schematic way. He showed several slides in connection with his work. I have been called "the old grey mare" by my loving friends in Heltzel Will Rule On SP Train Speeds Salem (U.R) Public Utilities Commissioner Charles H. Heltzel said yesterday he. will issue an order in the next few days set ting speeds of Southern Pacific mainline trains in Oregon. The State Supreme Court re cently ruled that setting of train speeds at city crossings is a func tion of the PUC, and not of the individual cities. Heltzel said his order will apply to all incorporated cities, except Canby, and. generally will comply with existing maxi mums set by city ordinances. the states but here somehow it sounds different.
