BOUND FOR EXILE when sailing permit is received from new Argentine government, Juan D. Peron has been living on this gun boat in Buenos -Aires harbor. He is said to be going to Spain. (International) Peron Granted Asylum In Spain; May Begin Exile Flight Today Buenos Aires (U.R) Oust ed President Juan D. Peron has been granftd asylum in Spain and may begin his flight into exile today, a source close to the new president said. The informant said negotia tions for a safe conduct pass for the deposed dictator have been concluded. He said Peron will be picked up by a seaplane from the Paraguayan gunboat in Buenos Aires harbor and flown to Paraguay. Then he will go to Spain. Peron will leave behind what has been described as an "Ar abian Nights" treasure trove amassed during his 10 years dictatorship of Argentina. A partial police inventory of, the loot recovered thus far listed almost. $30,000,000 in gold coins and U.S. and Argentine currency alone. Peron fled to refuge aboard the gunboat Paraguay, in. Buenos Aires for repairs, when the re gime toppled 11 days ago. He' remained aboard the 25-year- old crippled gunboat under the watchful eyes of the Argentine navy and air force during nego tiations for his exile. President Eduardo Lonardi, leader of the revolution which ended Peron's "iron man" dom ination, promised to respect the Latin American policy of the right of political asylum. But he vojved also to make certain that Peron would not be able to con spire to regain his political pow er; and prestige from the safety of exile. A source close to the presi dency said that Spain's willing ness to accept Peron was expres sed by Spanish Charge d' Affair es Manuel Viturra in a meeting with Juan Chavez Paraguayan ambassador to Buenos Aires. . Police Wednesday night ar rested Alejandro Leloir, leader of the Peronista Party. Leloir succeeded Peron as party head after the latter resigned on the heels of the abortive June 16 revolt, Lonardi Wednesday granted 1 full amnesty for all military and political figures imprisoned since Peron took office in June, 1946, including these whose cas es are pending in the courts. At the same time, ' Amadeo said that all political refugees in foreign embassies here would be permitted to go abroad with out hindrance. Most of Peron's chief supporters took asylum in various Latin American embas sies when his regime fell. The commission pointed out that there is no food service per centage set by regulation, but the requirement for records is to determine if all dispenser outlets are maintaining bona fide food service. State law provides that public dispenser premises must cook and serve food. Among other minor regula tion changes in simplifying lan guage of commission regulations the commission simpyif ied rec ord keeping of manufacturers and- wholesalers by requiring monthly inventories rather than petpetual inventory. The commission's sanitation regulation was amended to bring it in step with national sanita tion standards and those of the state board of health. SOC Enrollment Up 13.4 Per Cent Ashland ' Enrollment figures for Southern Oregon college show an increase of 13.5 per cent over the preceding year. Last year's 621 was shaded by this year's 705 registrants. Late arrivals may swell the total toward the hoped-for 750, according to Mrs. Mabel C. Win ston, registrar, as some enrollees are stm working on summer jobs. Returns to date indicate that men will outnumber women on campus 367 to 247, which is con tinuing a trend established last year. Final figures on enrollment, Mrs. Winston pointed out, will not be available until Oct. 8, the last day of registration. Roseburg By-Pass Will Open Saturday Roseburg U.R) A $4,282, 242 highway project the Rose burg bypass will be open to traffic for the first time Satur day. . The new route is expected to cut 15 minutes from Portland Medford driving time, although it cuts only about one-half mile from the distance. It will elim inate the traffic-clogged Rose burg suburbs and crowded Ste phens street from the Highway 99 route. Traffic engineers estimated that, about 40 per cent of the daily average of 19,000 vehicles would be diverted from, the street that has served both as a main Roseburg business street and a through highway. Interchanges at Winchester and Shady will .provide access to Roseburg. The new highway will have four lanes as it ap proaches the city from the north and south. Three bridges were built along the short stretch, including a new span to replace the treach erous narrow bridge across the South Umpqua at Winchester. Medford Trio Featured At College Assembly Ashland The Rogue Trio from Medford was featured at the first Southern Oregon col lege assembly of the year Wednesday in Churchill Hall auditorium. Trio members, according to Miss Fran Barta, adviser to the assembly committee, are Mr and Mrs. R. D. Werner, Medford, and Bruno Pellegrini, Medford.
