Odds Unchanged In 'Boner' Postponement Of Title Bout By JACK CUDDY Uniid Pratt Sportt Writer New York CU.PJ The "boner" postponement that sends Rocky Marciano and Archie Moore into the ring tonight for their heavy weight championship fight left the odds unchanged at 4-1 but may boost the gate toward $900, 000. With the weather lid lifted by a forecast of "cool and fair," officials of the International Box ing Club figured today's rush Nr York (U.P.) Fresh sales were in the ratio of nearly 5-1 to refunds. Despite challenger Moore's nervousness during Tuesday's physical examination and the general belief that the 24 hour delay would bother 'him more than the "ice-cold champion," the betting price remained stat ic. Unbeaten Marciano and the 38-year-old light heavyweight champion were slated for an other physical exam today, but they need not undergo the or deal of another weigh-in. Their respective trainers point ed out that the weights Tuesday Rocky 188V4 and Archie 188 were about what was expected. Fight Deferred 24 Hours Many boxing men figured pro moter Jim Norris had "pulled a prize boner" Tuesday when he deferred the fight 24 hours be cause of a bad-weather ' threat that never materialized. He an nounced the washout at 10 a.m., but less than an hour later the kies were clearing and Hurri cane lone veered out to sea. It was the first time an important title bout had been postponed before the weigh-in. Norris denied any boner. He explained: "I would do it again. We had no choice. Forecasts ifom all weather bureaus gov ernment, Navy and flying fields -were hopelessly gloomy. And " were being bombarded by railroads and air companies for instructions whether to start their special fight trains and planes for New York." Before the box-offices' reopen ed this morning, Norris said the ticket sale was slightly, more than $700,000. He expected a rush today and until fight-time tonight at the stadium for me- 4iium-priced $20 and $30 tick' its. In addition, 8,000 general 'admission $5 seats will go on ale at the stadium at 7 p.m. Starting Time Set Back .. Tonight s starting time was set back 15 minutes to 10:45 p.m. to avoid conflict with the regularly scheduled "Wednesday night home TV scrap between rniddleweights Bobby Dykes and Georgia Johnson at Miami Beach. There will be no home telecast of the Marcianc-Moore bout, but it will be broadcast nationally over ABC networks and to sev eral foreign countries. Should Moore's long, solid left Jabs and stunning "sneaker" rights achieve an upset victory tonight, a private contract pro vides that he must make his first defense against Rocky in a re turn bout next June. It would bring hit 19-year record to 121-19-5. He already has 82 knock outs, but has been stopped four tames. Marciano. seeking his 49th con secutive professional victory and 43rd knockout, is an aggressive, explosive, short-armed slugger wno is unusually rugged. He has been floored but once. However. he has been cut several times and is known as a "quick bleeder." Each is a slow starter and each has promised to warm up length uy in the dressing room and come out "hot." (U.PJ Lanky Bobby Dykes, the sixth ranking middleweight contender, is a 2-1 favorite over George Johnson in tonight's 10-round bout that national home televis ion fans will view instead of the Rocky Marciano-Archie Moore bout. At stake for the skinny Dykes, of Miami, was a possible non-title bout with middleweight champion Carl (Bobo) Olson. Olson was originally sched uled to fight Dykes tonight but had to withdraw because of an eye infection. Promoter Chris Dundee, however, said he will try to arrange another bout with the champ for the winner of to night's battle. Johnson, of Trenton, N.J., said he would probably "go for a knockout. I just want him to get in there and mix it up with me." But Dykes, undefeated this year, planned on outpointing the Trenton slugger with his tricky long-range attack. Dykes plan ned to go into the ring weighing around 162, five pounds heavier than Johnson. Use Tribune Wnf Ads QUICK and EASY! MEDF0MOTlUBUKI siPODimrs Little World Series Opens Rochester, N. Y.
