o :if IX MEDFORD (GREtfOW) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, September 16. 1955 School Convention Set At Church of Nazarene All ptoses of Sunday school work will be given special atten tion at the Sunday school convention being held Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 20 and 21 at the Church of the Nazarene, First nd Holly sts., under the auspices of the Rogue Valley Sunday School association. Workshop sessions will be con ducted for each department of the Sunday school by specialists in each area. Miss Lillian Swan- ion, of Calgary, Alberta, will be one of the leaders. She is the representative of the Scrip ture Press with headquarters in Chicago, 111., and is director of the Child for Christ of Canada Mrs. Emma Davis, a youth consultant and the Gospel Light Press representative, also will be one of the departmental lead' en at the local convention. Mrs. Davis has specialized in the jun ior department, junior high and young people's departments of the Sunday school. In addition to the workshop sessions there will be talks by the Re Herbert Anderson on "Reaching the Parents Through Sunday School," by the Rev. Wayne Adams on "Art of Hold ing in Sunday School," and by the Rev. Ulphin Davis on "Art of Promoting the Sunday School, and by the Rev. Charles Losie on "Superintendents and Christian Education Workers.' Other workers will be Mrs, Dorothy Corlett, of Portland, ryisual aids; Mrs. Bill Green, Med ford, flannelgraph; Mrs. Pearl Thompson,' Ashland; the Rev. Ernest Volkman, Phoenix, teach ing methods; and the Rev. James s.Neely, Medford, filmstrips, The services at 7:45 p.m. will b inspirational and the public is invited. The Rev. Wilmer N, Brown will speak Tuesday and the Rev. Ulphin Davis will speak Wednesday night Zion Lutherans Plan Institute; Educator Speaker Dr. EarlJtudisill, Ph.D., D.D secretary of adult education work under the board of Parish education of the United Luther an Church in America, will con duct an institute on family life in Zion Lutheran church, cor ner of Fourth st. and Oakdale ave., Sunday at eight p.m. The meeting is open to all interested. Dr. Rudisill is eminently qual ified as the leader of such an institute, church officers point out. In addition to the scholastic degrees he has earned, and his service as pastor in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and York, Pa., he has been instruc tor of psychology at the uni- versities of Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh. ' Author His foreign studies have in cluded work at the Sherwood Eddy seminar in London and Berlin. He is the author of "The Intimate Problems of Youth," "Christian Family Life," and "For Fathers Only.. At the institute Sunday eve ning in Zion Lutheran church there will be a display of books which are of value in this field " and apportunity will be avail able for questions to Dr. Rud-Sill. Japanese Student To Speak Sunday At First Baptist Missionary Sunday will be ob served at the First Baptist church, Sept. 18, beginning with the Sunday school hour at 9:45 a.m. At that time Philip Kano, who served as interpreter for Child Evangelism missionaries in his native Japan before coming to the United States for college and Bible training, will speak to sev eral departments of the Sunday school. Mr. Kano plans to return to Japan to do missionary work among his own people. At the evening services of the church Rev. and Mrs. Frank Melbourne, missionaries to the Spanish-speaking people of Ari zona, will speak. They will give a message to the young people at 7 , p.m. and will speak and show colored slides of then- work in Spain, southern France, and in Central America. The Rev. James W. COMFORTABLE INSIDE Presbyterians List Activities; Canvass Planned Don Montieth has been ap pointed Canvass director for the "Every Member Canvass" of the First Presbyterian church, and George Flanagan is chairman of the budget committee. They will be in Grants Pass Sunday af ternoon, with Dr. D. K. West, to go over plans for a fall cam paign. 30 Countries Besides supporting' special missionaries in Lebanon, Korea and Iraq, the local Presbyte rian church supports work in more than 30 different coun tries around'the world. Dr. West recently concluded his fifth year of service in the Medford Pres byterian. ' church and since his coming here a a new church school ' edition has been built and paid for and two services Sunday mornings, both in church and church school have been started. The membership has; more than doubled and giving for benevolent causes has raised from $4,000 to more ' than $22, 000.
