TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Gardeners To. Organize Men's Club All men interested in garden ing are invited to attend a meet ing in Medford, Tuesday, Sep tember 20? during which a branch of the Men' Garden Club of America will be formed. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Jackson hotel. Dr. Charles P. Wilson, Mil waukie, Ore., a director of the national club, will be here for the meeting. . . A general discussion of the purpose of a men's garden club will be held, and a talk on wild flowers of the Pacific northwest will be given by Fred Sievers, Washougal, Wash. Dr. Wilson will speak on tuberous begoni as, a flower which he has grown for 25 years. Pr. Sievers also is editor of the regional bulletin called "Gleanings" and both men are past presidents of the North west regional division of the men's organization. It is hoped that both Ashland and Grants Pass will be repre sented at the meeting. Ashland has a men's garden club not affiliated with the national group, and Grants Pass has an active club affiliated with MGC, it is stated. Roseburg has a re cently formed club, while Co quille and Coos Bay both have active clubs Lone Pjne PTA Makes Party Plans At irst Meeting Lone Pine Lone Pine Parent Teacher association opened the fall program with a meeting Tuesday night in the school gym nasium. Mrs; George Paul, presi dent, presided. . Mrs. A. S. Krause was- elected and installed as secretary. Teachers were introduced by Principal Henry Kamman and each woman teacher was pre sented a corsage. Also on the program was a mental health film, "From Sociable Sixes to Noisy Nines" and following the film Miss Mary Vandenburg of the child guidance clinic led dis cussion. Plans were announced for a card and games party to be given September 30, with the proceeds to go into the PTA scholarship fund. Refreshments ;were served by mothers of children in the eighth grade. Rifle Champion Guest in Medford Mr. and Mrs. Ralph M. Bel linger and daughter, Marlene, Seattle, Wash., visited two days this week with Mr. Bellinger's mother, Mrs. W. R. Lamb, 742 West Fourteenth street. The Bellingers were en route home from Camp Perryj, Ohio, where MissBellinger took part in the national rifle championship matches. A member of the 30 caliber women's international team, Miss Bellinger set a new team record. Shenas neld national individual championship in gal lery competition for the past eieht years. Miss Hart arrived in Medford Tiiesdav evening from Ocean City, Md where she was em ployed for the summer. She has attended Oregon State college for the past three years and is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Central Phone 3-5371 Church School Staff Attends Recent Retreat During a recent retreat held at Katydid ranch, workers in First Presbyterian church school heard their pastor, Dr. D. Kirk land West, give a bird's eye view of children around the world worshipping studying the Bible and living in Christian faith. "They need our help," said Dr. West. "A Christian Bible school in Korea for refugee chil dren can be maintained for the small sum of $5 a month, and there are more than 70,000 orphans in such Bible schools." First hand word from the na tion's outstanding leaders in Christian education came to the assembled teachers and officers as Mrs. James Hoey brought a report from the International Sunday School conyention which she attended in Cleveland in July. . "As high standards in Chris tian education were held up to us," Mrs. Hoey said, "sometimes I thought Medford Presbyterians were doing pretty well. But at other points, I saw we had a long way to go." Attending the retreat from the Medford church were Dr. West, pastor; Rev. O'Connell of the University of Oregon law school, speaks to the Medford League of Women Voters Satur day. The meeting, first fall ses sion for the league, will be a buffet luncheon tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at the Jackson hotel. Mr. O'Connell, who gives a talk on the development of wo men's rights this intriguing ti tle, gave the talk at the state convention of the league and it proved so popular that he was invited to deliver it for the local league. About a score Of Medford attorneys studied un der Mr. O'Connell, on the fa culty of the law school of the University of Oregon, and he is said to be highly interesting. Professor O'Connell received his degree from the University of Wisconsin and has resided in Oregon since 1938. He prac ticed law in .Eugene for several years, and was chairman of the statute revision council which directed the revision of Ore gon's statutes. The schedules will become effec tive Monday, Sept. 19. Fares for students will be the same as last year, officials said, or 10 tickets for $1. Regular buses going east will leave the city center at 7:30 and 8:25 a.m. and will go east on Main st. to Black Oak dr., north on Black Oak dr. to Hillcrest eve., and east on Hillcrest to Country Club dr. Buses will leave the Country Club at 7:45 a.m. and on the return trip Will go west on Hillcrest ave. to Barneburg rd.,. north on Barneburg rd. to Jackson st., west on Jackson st. to Academy st. and south on Academy st. to East Main st. . The bus will continue through Central Point to the high school. A special bus for Crater stu dents will leave the Big Y at 8:25 a.m., leave Table Rock and Berrydale at 8:26 a.m. and Howard school at 8:31 a.m. en route to Crater High school. Afternoon schedules from the east side will memo a regular scheduled bus which make a side trip to Roosevelt school. A special bus will leave Crater High school at 3:55 p.m., go south on Pacific highway to Mace rd., east on Mace rd. to Howard ave., south on Howard ave. to Berrydale ave., east on Berrydale ave. to Table Rock rd., returning to Medford city center via Table Rock rd. and Pacific highway. . 1L BUSH HOME FURNISHINGS Bible Study Groups Good News clubs for the pur pose of conducting classes for children in interdenominational Bible study are being formed in the valley, Mrs. L. P. Adams, city director of Child Evangel ism Fellowship, has announced. The CEF is an international organization for evangelization of the boys and girls of the world. Most of the classes are held in ' private homes after school in the children's neigh borhoods. Memory work, sing ing, play and Bible stories told by the flannelgraph method are included in the instruction. ; Class Schedules , A list of places, dates and hours for the classes were an nounced by Mrs. Adams. The Herbert Hoover Jr. -Going to Far East Washington (U.R) Under secretary of State Herbert Hoo ver Jr., is planning a trip to the Far East soon to survey progress of U. S. economic aid programs to the critical area. Hoover plans a "fairly exten sive" journey to see whether the money spent in Asia is paying off in the fight to keep free Asia out of Communist hands. He is expected to visit Japan, Korea, Formosa, the Philippines and South Korea. While in the area, Hoover also will attend sessions of the 17 nation Colombo economic meet ing in Singapore Oct. 17-22. That meeting will discuss plans to de velop South and Southeast Asia.
