BOWLING EVERGREEN LEAGUE Domestic Laundry held top pot, but only because Moore Steelmen had new bowlers to tart a scratch. Tom Colley had 545 for Domestic. Chuck's Pump Service also had a handicap "break" and split with the Big Y. Surprise of the league has been Oasis Ballroom, which took Barber Local 3-1 and held down fourth place in the standings. Pierce Freights had high se ries of the evening but lost one point to Hunter and Best to hold second spot with Jorgensen's Dairy. Jorgensen's also had a 3-1 series, losing their second game to Jackson Creek Lumber. The Eastside Market squad is getting better with practice and it was a close 3-1 series that went to Swift and Co. Gordon Boners of Swift had a 508 for the differ ence between the squads. - The 559 of Gene Doyon, Pierce Freights, was high series for the evening. Central Point Injuries to key players dampened the outlook for the Crater high Comets this week as they girded for one of the most formidable . rivals they'll meet this season. Yreka, Calif., Miners come to Central Point this Friday eve ning with 18 lettermen back from the contingent which waxed the Comets 44 to 14 in the California town in 1954. . For their effort to even the score for the licking the Crater club is hit hardest at tackles where both Dick Davis and Neil Green are nursing hurts. Davis pulled an elbow ligament in practice Tuesday and may miss the Yreka mix entirely. Green is still troubled by a rib cartilage separation. He saw little duty against Glendale last week and his service this time, if any, may be imited. Harrison Hurt Ron Harrison, a halfback, who has been going good, broke a toe against jGlendale and also has a pulled thigh muscle. Jack Lilly, also a halfback, is botherd by a bum knee. Coach Leonard Warren said that Dave Parker and Bill Morse likely will start at tackles and Harold Lefler and Roger Sea man at guards. Green may be used, if possible, at either posi tion. Nathan Doughit will be at center. Ends will be picked from among Carl Keellner, Gor don Tidwell, John Shama and Jerry Kime. Mel Harsh is slated for quar terback with Freshman Wayne Allen ticketed for service there also. Juveland is capable of filling in at all posi tions in the backfield and has been running hardest among the backs so far this year. Mineri Fight Fire The fact that the need for fire fighters severely cut into Yreka practices gives the Crater team a considerable advantage in pre paring for the game. Even Miner Coach Jack Beggs was reported on the fire line as Yreka was threatened last week. But ex perience may make up for lack of .workouts. This year., the Miners can field an offensive club with seven vets and a de fensive team with 11 lettermen. A Siskiyou Daily News story says that, although the Miners will miss a number of stars and others who helped, "they still will have plenty of depth." Among the backfield men are Jerry Churchill, 170-pound quar terback with three years exper ience, and Bill Kleaver, 190 left half. Kleaver was second high scorer in northern California last year and made the San Fran cisco Chronicle all-star team. Charles Caster, 205, and Chuck Dilley, 206, are returnees in the line. Redding Links Match Sunday Rogue Valley Country club golfers will go to Redding, Calif., this week end for a men's team match. There will be a din ner for them at Redding on Sat urday night and play will be on Sunday. Those planning to make the trip are to sign up at the pro shop here. Eighteen men have signed up so far and 12 will be accompanied' by their wives. . Bob Rector with a 74 was low gross last week end in RVCC ball sweepstakes. Bob Weber and Ray Sorenson tied for low net with 69s. Roy Smith had sec ond low net with 70 and Ed Nichols and Ron Gandee had 71s. Blind bogey prizes went to Frank Allen, E. K. Ricker and Bud Judy. Golden Trout Soon May Be Reality in Oregon Portland Angling for the beautiful golden trout, once just a dream to Oregon anglers, may soon become a reality according to recent surveys made by the Oregon Game Commission. The colorful golden, a sub species of rainbow, have now be come well established and boast good populations in several Wal lowa mountains areas. Investi gations of Swamp and Baby Long lakes by Will Brown, reg ional supervisor, and Homer Campbell, northeast fisheries agent, showed that the goldens planted by" the commission by aerial lift as young fry in 1953 had grown five td seven inches in length and were in good phy sical condition. ' Unmistakable coloration is typical of the golden trout. The ordinary rainbow spotting is found on the upper part of the body, but the red stripe along the lateral line is more brilliant and wider than on the rainbow. Bright red-orange colors the bel ly. The lower fins are a bright red-orange with white edges. The flesh is also red-orange, sim ilar to that of the blueback or kokanee found in Wallowa lake. i - ' MULT. He succeeds Jean Eber hart, Ashland. ; Swanson, a veteran referee, will be a "working" commission er, officiating in ball games a well as assigning referees for other contests. The plan has op erated successfully for years in eastern Oregon. . A plan whereby hoop officials must be present at a meeting once per week during the sea son in order to get jobs for the week was discussed at an" Ash land meeting Tuesday. No de cision was made. Red Chinese Study Old Disease Cures Tokyo (U.R) Communist China is conducting medical re search in reverse. Radio Peiping said today. The broadcast reported on scientific study into ancient, not modern, ways to cure diseases. Red China's Ministry of Pub lic health has set up a study group of doctors, some trained in 20th century techniques and others in the ancient lore of the Orient. . They announced this week, Peiping Radio said that 200-year-old prescription for curing sleep ing sickness worked in 90 per cent of 54 cases tested. FAKE PISTOL STOLEN Milwaukee, Wis.
