I HEAR THIS STORY EVERY DAY Exasperated. Sarcastic. Unsympathetic. Undignified. Name-calling. Faultfinding. I'm all of these, and then some, they tell me. Why don't I feed people a little syrup, butter, or soft soap with my medicine, as do the eminent doctors who manage to take time out from business to write pieces for the papers? I have no answer. Maybe it is because I'm such a stinker un der the hard shell. In extenuation I'd like to leave this statement in my cell, when they come for me at sunrise. For many years I have tried to keep my spirits and my pro fessional pride high, despite the efforts of the AMA, under the rule of the late Pooh-Bah, to destroy ,both. Purchases may also be made in Idaho later. The action is designed to sup port prices. Department officials said prunes will be given free to school lunch rooms and other non-profit institutions. Department spokesmen said they will pay "market prices or above." But they refused to say how many prunes they will buy. It may amount to about 2,600 tons. The final total, depends on available outlets, marketing con ditions, and the amount of fed eral, money that will be avail able, officials said. The 1955 crop of fresh Italian prunes, grown chiefly in North western states, is estimated at 108,700 tons compared to 67,600 tons last year and a 10-year ave rage of about 106,000 tons. The New Taste Thrill Sold Exclusively at JACK'S DRIVE-UP 911 North Riverside longer selling cigarettes a side line which made a lot of folding money while the Pooh-Bah was in the saddle. But the doctors needn't worry about the loss of the cigarette money. The introduction and sale of the new "miracle" or "wonder" drugs, under the aus pices and through the agency of the AMA and the organization's official journal, is an inexhaust ible source of wealth. "Sick and tired" is a common expression which one seldom takes literally, but I mean it li terally when I say I am sick and tired of reports like the follow ing, which come by the dozen: "I've had arthritis for 20 years. In April I started on the new drug Meticortone, which indeed worked wonders as it made me feel like a new born person; and I can't express how happy I was to be rid of the stiffness and inflammation in my knee and elbow joints. which were mostly affected. Then it seems something hap pened. After taking six pills a day and then two a day, under doctor's direction, for nearly 10 weeks, I suddenly had a re lapse and all the stiffness, aches and pains returned worse than ever. Why . . .?" Indeed I am sorry for people who have this experience with the "wonder" or "miracle" drugs. There's nothing I can do about it but warn them not to expect a happy ending of the joy ride if or when they choose to undergo treatment with .such drugs. WALT'S TV & RADIO SERVICE Oldest Shop in So.
