show the biggest in history of
the classic.

behind Getchell in the Contest
for championship , flight seeded
positions. Lewis also, bettered the
old course mark with a 67 and
Millette with a 68 knotted the
standard established in 1955 by

who toured the course in one-under-par

leaders. Bob Atkinson, Portland,
1951 and 1952 champ, and Wen

Z automatically, scored 72 in
practice.

round. On Sunday the champion
ship flight has its fourth and fifth
rounds, the first flight has its
third and fourth and other flights
their third.
Women play one round on
Saturday. The championship
flight has its second and third
rounds on Sunday and the first
flight its first and second rounds.

are set.
Thirty-six hole finals are set
in both men's and women's cham
pionship battles on Monday with
18 holes in .other flights.

San Francisco (U.R) The
word is that the Pacific coast
League directors switched their
League Sept. 12 meeting from
Los Angeles to Seattle so that
the owners could skip across the
border and take a look at the
Vancouver, B.C., set-up.
This just about clinches the
announcement that the Oakland
Acorns, a member of the PCL
for 53syears, will make move
for the 1956 campaign.
"It is probable that the direc
tors will go over to look at the
Vancouver ball park while the
meeting is n in Seattle," a
spokesman for the PCL admitted
today.
"While C. . L. (Brick) Laws,
owner of the Oaks, says nothing
has been signed anent the mov
ing, it is reported that the move
will be announced after the final
day of play.
No Civic Movement
The odd thing about the move
away from Oakland is the fact
that no single person and no
organization has made any ef
fort to keep the ball club in that
city.
Every time someone tries to
move the Sacramento franchise,
or one of the cities from the
other smaller leagues, there al
ways is a big civic movement to
keep professional baseball in the
city.
"But there has been no or
ganized move in this city," says
Alan Ward, sports editor of the
Oakland Tribune. "Brick knows
that and he has known for some
time that baseball is dead here."
While the franchise shift will
be the first one in the league
since the San Francisco Missions
moved south to become the
Hollywood Stars in 1938, it will
come as no great shock.
