Vagrant Jailed Robert Knox, 18, of Portland, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 days in county jail for vagrancy in district court yesterday. One was at the Thomas Huffman and the other at the William Fredenburg home, 319 South Grape st., at 10:30 a.m. Fires resulted in damage to the motors and there was considerable smoke at the Huffman home. Juveniles Questioned Two 16-year-old juveniles were inter rogated and released . by city police yesterday afternoon on suspicion of larceny, according to city police. One of the boys admitted breaking several win dows in the Griffin Creek school building in the past, offi cers said. They were released to their parentsnending action by the Jackson county juvenile office. Sergeant Baljo, who has been here (lor the past three years, has been responsible, directly or indirectly, for the procure ment of som?)223 men and wo men from the Rogue valley and northern California for the Ma rines. After being relieved from his present duties, Sergeant Baljo will report to the Marine Corps Air station, El Toro, Calif., for assignment to the October re placement battalion for duty overseas. A group of civic-minded lead ers of industry have formed a Detroit Committee for a Gar bage Free City under the spon sorship of Mayor Albert ECCobo. CPi Four New Classrooms Into Use At Eagle Point Eagle Point Four new class rooms and a library in the new Eagle Point high school wing will be used for the first) time when school opens Sept. 9. ' Nebraska Has Estimated 13,000 State Employees Cincoln, Neb. (U.R) Nebraska has an estimated 13,000 state employes, in addition to 19,000 on the federal and 39,000 on local public payrolls. The figures came from Dr. Everett E. Peterson, extension economist at the University of Nebraska. .0 Nebraska has 139 federal and 378 state and local government employes for each 10,000 popu lation, as compared with the na tional figures of 133 and 301, respectively, Peterson said. (U.R) William Sickles is a nautical cop for 40,000 motorboats. Sickles, who used to be a tug boat captain on the Hudson river is New York State's boat in spector, charged with the job of policing the thousands of motor boats that zoom around the state's inlandQ lakes each sum mer. - After more than 36-jears on the job, he still feels he'd be safer tugboating on the river than trying to cross a busy Adi roadack lake on a summer Sun day. As for speeding boats, Sickles says it's too hard to tell how fast a boat is going, so he gets con victions on reckless driving charges about four a year. It was the largest numbf of sen ior students ever to register on an opening day. The number of seniors is ex pected to increase to about 120 by the time school starts, Parks said.
