Domestic Laundry and Pierce Freight Lines both benefited in that way. Jorgen sen's Dairy won their points the hard way,s juft better bowling than the opponents. The league appears to be well established, with more than 35 new faces added to this year's regular league schedule. The in crease in new members shows the reward to the owners of the new alley establishment for their courage in making the move to the new quarters with all new equipment. By HAL WOOD United Piexi Sports Writer ' San Francisco (U.R) With out a single tackle being made, a block thrown or a pass caught, some of the coaching friends "of Chuck Taylor of Stanford are putting the "boy wonder" on the spot. "Stanford should be 40 points favorite to beat us," says Coach Lynn Waldorf of California. It so happens -that in nine years at Cal, Waldorf never has lost to Stanford; and they don't meet this year until November 19. "Stanford is going to be the club to beat to go to the Rose Bowl," says Coach Red Sanders of UCLA. It was this same UCLA club that "edged" the Stanford Indians last year, 72-0. Down on The Farm, Taylor and his gang, from the assistant coaches to the water boy, aren't quite as confident as they have been in past years. "We'll have a veteran team ex cept in a couple of spots," says Taylor. "But those of you who are expecting wonders from that freshman, team we had last year Atomic Waste Product May Sterilize Sewage Washington (U.R) Waste products from atomic power plants -offer a possible source of material for sewage steriliza tion, the Army Corps of En gineers' research and develop ment laboratories announced. Gamma-radiation from radio active substances has "proven capable in six months of re search of sterilizing water-borne sewage without activating or leaving residual radiation in the treated materials. The experi ments were conducted by the laboratories' at Fort Belvoir, Va., in conjunction with the Oak- Ridge National Laboratory at Oak Ridge, Tenn, Previous work with the dead ly radiation has" shown that it also can be used to sterilize cer tain drugs and antibiotics which are harmfully affected by heat; preserve meat and other foods by killing bacteria that, cause spoilage; irradiate pork and de crease bacteria in swimming pools without the use of chlorine. Frosh Probabilities It was the great freshman team of last year that brought the high hopes to Stanford this year. The frosh squad, among other things, shellacked Calif ornia frosh 60-0; ran up a 19-0 lead over Southern California frosh, then with reserves, got beat in the last quarter, 20-19; and beat UCLA freshmen, 25-0. Freshmen teams are allowed to play only three games each year. '.'The only sophomores from that freshman club who might break into the starting lineup," says Chuck, "are Lou Valli, a fullback; and Jack Douglas, who has a chance at quarter." The role of being a favorite for anything in football is strictly new to Taylor since he took over as head coach five years ago at Stanford. That was the season he march ed his boys right into the Rose Bowl and a plastering from Illinois.- Good Results O With very little talent avail able, his clubs have brought good results since that time and two years ago even 'went down to the final game before getting eliminated from the Rose Bowl assignment. Last year the experts predict ed that he would be lucky to win a game. He started out by knocking over College of Pacif ic, Oregon and Illinois in a row before the boys started play ing at their natural level. But this season the team faces one of the most rugged schedules in the country. Midway in the slate, the Indians come up against Ohio State, Michigan State, Sou thern California, UCLA and Washington. "If we get through those, we might have quite a teant," says assistant coach George Lynn. To which all will agree. Man's Ancestor Breaks Law for Davy Crockett Memphis, Tenn. (U.R) U. S.
