Mr. Day, also a club member, has instructed obedi ence classes. Retrieving a dumbbell over the broad jump is Lucky Pet Haven Cissy, a pomeranian, trained and handled by Mrs. Margrett Jones of Phoenix. Cissy is working on her companion dog obedience degree, and has been in numerous demonstrations and exhibitions, where she always pleases the audience because of the delicacy and per fection of her work. Both Sunny and Red have com-, pleted their companion dog obedience degrees, and are now in training for the advance degree, as well as working on brace train ing for exhibitions. Mrs. Gibbs is secretary-treasurer of Southern l Oregon Kennel club, as well as organizer of the Junior Kennel Club group for which she acts as trainer and counselor. s - - th ? Medford Tribune MEDFORD, OREGON, SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 1955 Kennel CI ub Plans Show By OLIVE STARCHER Southern Oregon Kennel club will hold the Milford, Conn., one of the best known of the AKC seventh annual all-breed dog show and obedience judges. He will be assisted by Anton Korbel, trials Sunday, September 4, at Medford Senior- Belmont, Calif.; Robert Water, North Haney, B. C, fj.i. i a x'a i' iiti i r Miss Margaret Downing, San Francisco, obedience High school stadium. A total of 451 dogs from . , .? c ki r c i r vt cocker spaniel judge; Ralph Roberts, North Ridge, many western and mid-western states are entered in the show, sanctioned by the American Kennel club. William O. Gibbs, bench show chairman of the club, states that the show will be open at 9:30 a.m., with judging to continue all day.. A sched ule will be issued soon in order that visitors may go for the judging of a specified breed, and tickets will be stamped for re-entry of visitors. Main judge will be Edwin L. Pickhardt, New Calif., German shepherds; and Mrs. Leureba Mc- Daniel, Portland, who will judge the toy group. A number of handsome trophies will be awarded to the winning animals. Southern Oregon Kennel club has members in Ashland and Grants Pass and other towns at well as Medford, and they are proud of the repu tation which the local show has earned in the few years since Its beginning. rwwr -pr- ps : 1 k M i - w - " j -m. wm;ZMm. Mrs. Bruse has been training ocky for show the past several months, and he will be entered in both conformation and obedience trials at the coming event. Mrs. Bruse will not only serve as the dog's handler for the competition, but wili help with the work of the show Sunday. Mr. Bruse, also a member of the kennel club, is active in promotion and exhi bition work. Tatters. At a recent show in Gresham, Ore., Edward ' Nienows Gretchen won two points toward her championship and took the trophy for best of opposite sex. - rw ( Mrs. 'George E. Stacey, president of the club, poses with her 10-months old collie. Merry Oaks Knight of Folly, purchased from, the nationally famous Parader Kennels in Omaha, Neb. At the first annual summer show of the Golden Gate Kennel club, San Francisco, Knight went winners' dog and best of opposite sex for a two point in toward his championship. Mrs. Stacey trains her own dogs, nd handles them in the show ring. Another member is R. W. Kirsher of Ashland, pictured with his well trained black Labrador retriever. Boar Ranch Sky Rocket. Skybo has been entered in Oregon, Washington and California shows, and has completed his companion dog degree, .his companion dog ex cellent degree, and now has finished two thirds of his utility-dog degree, the highest obedience degree. Mr. Kirsher has been instruc tor for several of the Kennel dub obedience training classes. I Mrs. Joan B. Catalano and her weimaraner, Catafano's Mia, CD. are pictured at a Richmond; Calif, show with Judge Irene Castle Phillips. Mia won four points toward-her championship and went top scoring dog in the Novice A. obedience class with an entry of 54 dogs. She also finished her companion dog degree in three straight shows. Mrs. Catalano is active in the Weimaraner Club of America, and the local club. 0
