WHY NOT LOOK AND SEE? Uh-huh, I know. Had the same trouble myself six or eight years ago. Along about the fourth or fifth end a nagging little pain or discomfort would develop in the left hypochondrium. Nothing to speak of, but it was something to worry about. Some kindN of malignancy, I surmised, morbid ly. Sometimes I kept on playing and the spell passed. Other times I relinquished my place to another bowler. This occurred from time to time for several months. Finally my boss Micky and the Young Snip made an appointment with a doctor whose professional abil ity and honesty I admire. .Well, sir, the doctor gave me his usual thorough examination and, perhaps surmising what I was worrying about, requested X-ray study of the progress of an opaque meal through the gas trointestinal tract. The diag nosis was, as the doctor had sus pected before he asked for X ray corroboration, diverticulo sis. Diverticulosis is the presence of intestinal diverticula. Diver ticula are pouches or pockets leading off from the main tube or canal. Sometimes a diverticulum be comes irritated or inflamed (di verticulitis) and this was no doubt what caused my belly aches. Never mind what I wor ried about. I ceased worrying when I learned I had diverticu losis. Most adults have a diverti culum or two, and only excep tionally does the condition ever cause any trouble. U.R) Devout snake handlers today planned a second deadly ritual at a rustic worship spot in defiance of Ken tucky police who broke up their memorial" for a fatally bitten cultist. The troopers moved on the huge gathering at the mountain CD clearing beside State Highway G421 yesterday and arrested the 0Rev. William Vernon, Keokee, Va., just as he began the snake handling rites. - Vernon pleaded guilty to vio lating a Kentucky statute pro- hibiting snake handling and went free on S500 bond. He was to go on trial next Friday at Caywood, Ky. " - Other0 leaders of the weird sect said that despite the arrest the service will be continued at the same spot on Sept. 18. The service was to be a "me morial' for the late Rev. Lee Valentine, who died a week ago at Ft. Payne, Ala., from the bite o of a big rattlesnake. E. Roland Harriman, chair man of the ARC, telegraphed trie 3,713 Red Cross chapters throughout the nation to begin an immediate appeal for funds. He said incomplete surveys of damage and destruction indicate that 8,000 families will ask for Red Cross assistance. Harriman also messaged Pres ident Eisenhower, honorarv Red Cross chairman, that all the re sources of the relief aeencv have been thrown into the effort to relieve suffering in the north east flood areas. He said on the basis of prelim inary figures it is estimated Red Cross relief in the flood disaster may reach or exceed $5,000,000. Lana Turner Hospitalized For General Checkup Hollywood (U.R) Film act ress Lana Turner, who recently suffered a brain concussion when she fell in her bathtub, was in nearby Santa Monica to day for a general checkup. Doctors said the blonde act ress, who entered the hospital Sunday after being bedridden a home, would not return to work at 20th Century-Fox Studio for two or three weeks. I like to re call the pleasant eight days I spent in hospital when my ap pendix was removed by the late Dr. A. H.
