Brown decided to take action after receiving "a few crank let-tr-ra from throuahout the coun- try" from persons wondering twhat he planned to do in the Case. OI.R) Searchers early loday re- trieved Ihe body of Dr. Fred W,. Positive identification of the body was made by Dr. How ard Holmes, the victim' brother. Crescent City, Calif. (U.R) Sheriff's deputies turned to the "sea today in their efforts to re-cover the body of a Phoenix, Ariz., doctor from an almost in s accessible California beach, p For the past four days all at ig, tempts at recovery including by o horseback and helicopter have cObeen frustrated by the rugged terrain of the area. Del Norte County Sheriff Harold Scott said he would try g to take a skiff into the isolated beach at low tide today in an r. effort to recover the body, ten i tatively identified as that of 1- Dr. Fred W, Holmes. G Sheriff's parties have shied vaway from attempting a sea landing because 'the beach and shoreline is strewn with boul ders. Holmes was one of four mem bers of his family to be drowned in a fishing accident on Sunday. Still missing are the bodies of 2' his father, Dr. Fred G. Holmes, and his two sons, Fred Jr., 10, and Stephen, 8. Son Born In January, 1953, she heard from the Air Force that her hus band's plane had been shot down over North Korea. Their son, Danny Walter, was born the fol lowing March. In June, 1954, the Air Force notified Mrs. Schmidt that her husband was probably alive and a prisoner in China. She married Fine, a strapping Sierra Nevada lumberjack, in September 1954. She has said the wedding took place "in Mexico." In November, 1954, the Chin ese Communists reported that Schmidt had been sentenced to four years' imprisonment for 'spying." At that time, Mrs. Schmidt told reporters she had received the Air Force notifica tion in June and that she had written Schmidt twice daily since then. She did not mention the fact that she had remarried two months before. Schmidt left Tokyo today for the United States. He arrives in California Friday morning. ffiJaM t" .III. Portuguese-Style Bullfight Success San Francisco (U.R) A cur ious crowd of 8,000 turned out last night at the Cow Palace to watch Portugese-style bull-fight ing make its first appearance in the United States. The crowd ' was enthusiastic at the spectacle, even if it wasn't exactly according to Hemingway. The show opened with three convertibles full of pretty girls driving around the bull ring. Be hind the convertibles walked the picadores, banderilleros and mat adors dressed in their formal cos tumes. After the parade, the bulls ap peared, accompanied by an SPCA ambulance. Manolo Navorro, famed Span ish matador, drew shouts of ap proval for his fancy capework Juanita Aparicio, pretty 19-year- old Mexican torera, had trouble with a "bad bull" which refused to perform properly. The bulls were of Andalasian fighting stock imported from Mexico., Their horns were tipped so they could not hurt the bull fighters, who in turn were not allowed to kill the animals. Promoter Jes Cortes of Ma nila said the opening was a suc cess. He will move the show to Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and New York after its six-day stand here.
