Measles Lead Seven cases of measles in the county were re ported to the-health department for the week ending Aug. 5. Oth er diseases recorded were pneu monia, two cases; and chicken pox, german measles and mumps one case each, for a total of 12. To Move Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ellis, Thomas rd., plan to leave Aug. 15 for Harlowton, Mont., where they will live. He will be employed there with a Buick dealership. Ellis is a member of the Medford fire department and Mrs. Ellis until recently worked at the First National bank. Visitors Leare Mr 'and Mrs Darrell Davis, Berkeley, Calif., left Sunday after visiting for a week with Mrs. Davis' brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. James E. McCue, Vashti way, and her nieces, Mrs. Clifford Crosby, 370 Lozier lane, and Mrs. Harold Compton, Phoenix- Hillcrest rd., and their families. m Legion Meeting A meeting of Medford Post 15 of the Amer ican Legion will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Legion home on South Riverside ave. The budget for the coming year will be up for approval. Roy Huson, chairman of the Civil Defense committee has arranged as speaker Maj. Gen. Joseph Hicks, county civil defense director. He will discuss the local civil de fense program. Reports on the state Legion convention will be given by delegates. Visits Parents Mr. and Mrs. James Brinson, and children, Jimmy, 8, and Janet, 3, San Di ego, Calif, are visiting her par ents Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Catey, 55 North Orange st. Brinson is on 30-day leave from the Navy and is an electrician technician, first class. Both he and Mrs. Brinson are Medford High school graduates and he has been in the service for about nine years. She is the former Miss Patricia Catey. They arrived here earlier and made a trip to Portland to visit his mother, Mrs. William R. Potter, a for mer Medford resident. The visit ors plan to be here about a week before leaving for their home. Cuts Hand Glen Bradley, Talent, was released from Sac red Heart hospital this morning after having been treated for a cut on the hand, the hospital reported. Bail Forfeited Bruce Allen McDonald, 33, of box 7, Butte Falls, forfeited S30 bail in dist rict court yesterday after being arrested over the week end on charges of being drunk on a pub lic highway. Auto Collision Cars oper ated by Charles Thomas Rose, 3612 South Pacific highway, and Joyce Wendell Wickman. 226 King st., collided on South Riverside ave. near Ninth st. yesterday, according to city po lice. No injuries were reported and no citations have been is sued, police said. Charge Reduced Harry E. Messenger, 37, of 519 South Central ave., was sentenced to five months in the county jail yesterday in district court after charges were reduced from ob taining money by false pretenses to making a false statement in writing to procure benefit. Mes senger plead guilty to the lesser charge. Reports Theft Gayle Lucille Sutton, 502 Maple st., has re ported the theft of a coin bank from her home yesterday, ac cording to city police records. Miss Sutton said the coin bank contained $13 in currency, ap proximately $6 in change and a check from Henry's Drive-Inn restaurant for $26.16, police added. Man Released Lee F. Smith, 57, Applegate, was released from Community hospital this morning after being treated for a bruised leg. The injury was received when a truck ran over Smith's leg at Hunter and Best sawmill about 7:15 a.m. today, Smith was taken to Community hospital by Medford Ambulance service. Owners to Meet The annual picnic and business meeting of the Union Creek Home Owners' association will be held Sunday, Aug. 14, at 12:30 p.m. at the Community kitchen. Buildings Inspected City Fire Marshal Truman Nelson yesterday inspected eight busi ness occupancies and conducted an inspection following a fire. Six orders were issued for cor rection of hazardous conditions. Trash Fire A Medford fire department pumper truck was dispatched at 1:45 a.m. today to extinguish a fire in a trash pile at the rear,of 1221 South River side ave., according to firemen. There was no damage. m m m ' Fairground Cleaners Lead ers and 4-H club members with supervisors are asked to come to the fairgrounds Thursday at 10 a.m. to clean up the grounds for the fair next week. Mercy Flights Two more patients, the 3J77th and 378th, were carried to Portland hos pitals by planes of the non-profit Mercy Flights, Inc., here yester day. One patient was Frank C. Williams, from Klamath Falls to the Veterans hospital in Portland for emergency medical care, and the other was a Mt. Shasta, Calif., baby, taken to Children's hospital for surgery. Pilots on the flights were Dick Nyhoff, Mrs. Louise Burns Johnson and Lee Flink. Open Wednesday Evening 'Til -9. 341 North Central Charles Dunn, 70, Succumbs at Home Charles Dunn, 70, of 1335 south Peach St., was found dead in his home at about 5:30 p.m. yester day by a neighborhood boy Dunn was well known in Med ford as a gardener for several families. Sheriff's officers investigating said Ronald Ralph Casper, 1287 Peach st. found Dunn lying face down in his kitchen. The Casper boy said he and several others had been using a part of the Dunn residence for a clubhouse. He was going to the clubhouse at the time he found the dead man. . Sheriff's officers said the man had apparently died between 3 and 4 p.m. He had been under doctor's care for high blood pres sure for some time. The body was removed to Conger-Morris funeral home. Obituaries WILLIAM COPELAND Funeral services for William Q. Copeland, 70, who died at his home, 1292 Dixie lane, Sunday, will be held at Perl funeral home Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. G. H. Hillerman of Zion Lutheran church officiating. Graveside services at Jackson ville cemetery will be conducted by the Masonic lodge. The deceased was born at Tyro, Kan., on Sept. 23, 1884, and had been a resident of Med ford for the past 27 years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Independence, Kan. Survivors include two sons, Donald, Medford,, and Sgt. James, Ft. Lewis, Wash.; three brothers, A. H. and Ezra, both of Independence, and A. J., Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Miss Clarissa Copeland, Inde pendence, and Mrs. Frank Koons, Wynona, Ola., and five grandchildren. INELDA WILLIAMS Funeral services for Inelda H. Williams, 89, who died Sun day, will be held in Conger Morris funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. J. Thomas Dixon, of the First Methodist church, officiating. Committal will be in Siskiyou Memorial park. The deceased was born July 15, 1866, at Electic, Ala., and had lived in Medford since July, 1949. He was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dwight L. Seely, Medford; and a sister, Mrs. Willa Stipp, Wichita, Kan. Bill Stern Injured In Auto Accident New York (U.R) Sports announcer Bill Stern suffered a possible concussion and other injuries today when his car crashed into a bridge abutment in the Bronx. The 48-year-old announcer was taken to Jewish Memorial hos pital where his condition was re ported as "fair." Hospital at tendants said he received lacera tions in addition to the possible concussion. Stern conducts a sports pro gram for the American Broad casting Company. Wall Street New York (U.R) Stocks declined 1 to 4 points in a mod erately active session today. U. S. Gypsum fell more than 8 . points and Reynolds Metals at its low was off 6V4 points.
