Medford, Oregon Friday, August 3, 1955 HISTORIC METHODIST CHURCH The old Methodist church in Jacksonville will be opened Sunday for services at 7:30 p.m., which will be conducted by the ev. Jouett P. Bray, retired Metho dist minister. The services will be held in connection with the Jacksonville Jubilee. The church was dedicated Jan. 1, 1854, and is claimed to be the oldest Protestant church west of the Rocky mountains still in good repair and use. The church is located on Fifth st., Jacksonville, and is situated diagonally from the Jack sonville Museum. The public is invited. Historic Church Will Be Scene of Sunday Service Jacksonville "Seeking and Finding," will be the title of the sermon in the historic old Methodist church Sunday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m., when the Rev. Jouett P. Bray will speak. The service is being held in cooperation with the Jacksonville Jub ilee committee and will be patterned after the type of services held when the church was in use during the pioneer days. The public is invited. Has Place "It is proper that the church has its place in the jubilee pro gram when it is remembered that men and women of the streets, miners, saloon keepers and Christian people of all faiths sacrifice time and money to have a place to worship, letting the world know that God has not forgotten in such riotous times," Dr. Bray, who is a retired Methodist minister, explained. Dr. Bray also is the oldest Methodist minister in this area in age and service, it is pointed out. He entered the ministry in 1905 and all his service has been in western states. Eagle Point Church Has Interim Pastor Eagle Point The Rev. Joe Munshaw has been appointed in terim pastor of the Eagle Point Community church, officers of the church announced this week. He will conduct services their beginning Sunday. He replaces the Rev. Glenn Wade, who has served the church for five years and re cently resigned as pastor. Upper Applegate Vacation Bible School Planned Upper Applegate The Upper Applegate Sunday school will hold daily vacation Bible school at the Grange hall Aug. 8 to 12, according to the Rev. Allan Hill, Central Point, Sunday school missionary. He succeeded the Rev. D. D. Randall, who is re tired. Classes for adults and children o'f each age group will be con ducted. Sermon Series Announced for Nazarene Cruch "We Believe," will be the title of a series of sermons at the Church . of the Nazarene, the first sermon to be given Sunday by the pastor, the Rev. Willard Bruce, his wife and children, Gregory, Amy and Jerome, are scheduled to arrive in Medford Saturday, accompanied by the Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Korby, of St. Peters Lutheran church, 1020 East Main st. The Korbys met the Bruces at San Francisco. The men attended Concordia semi nary and were graduated in 1948. After graduation the Burces left for New Guinea and opened a mission field in the central highland district under auspices of the Lutheran church, Missouri synod. The Rev. Mr. Bruce will speak at 11 a.m. communion service Sunday, Aug. 7, at St. Peter's church. No early service will be held that day. Observance Mission Sunday also will be observed Sunday by the congre gation. At 1:15 p.m. church members will meet for a potluck lunch at the south end of Hawthorne park. An out-of-door service will be held there at 3 p.m. The pub lic is invited. An informal lecture will be given Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m. by the Rev. Piper Minister we buy 'em when they're cheap our frozen storage cabinet Bel Canto Chorus Schedule Program For This Evening The nationally . known Bel Canto chorus of Boles Orphan home will be presented at the Church of Christ at 1701 West Main st., at 8 p.m. today. The group is currently engaged in its sixth national tour, and was or ganized in 1949. t The public is invited. The pro gram to be presented here will be in three sections, hymns and special songs, a section of fa miliar and commonly used songs, and a group of spirituals. In cluded in the program will be special selections by the boys' chorus, the girls' sextet, and the male quartet. The chorus is under the direc tion of 17-year-old Paul Robert Oler, and was trained by A. Hugh Graham, musical director of the home. Tex Williams, man ager of the chorus and director of the current tour, will give highlights of the program of Boles home. The Boles -home, from which the chorus comes, is located at Quinlan, Tex., near Dallas, and cares for 275 fatherless boys and girls. It comprises in addition to the home itself, a public school located on its own, campus. church and Bible school plant and industries for the occupation of the young people. The Agricul tural committee members re ported a slight drop in hog prices, hen prices high, hog and cattle production at high level and the cattle market at peak of pro duction. The legislative chairman re ported that Pomona Grange passed the resolution protesting cessation of passenger service on the Southern Pacific between Ashland and Portland. HEC announced a Stanley party to be held at the Grange Friday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. The public and Grange members are invited to attend. The lecture hour opened with a sing led by Esther Fabric and Edna Sheehan, followed by an old-fashioned spelling bee conducted by Frank Hall. Mrs. Roy Cameron gave an interest ing report on the activities at State Grange held recently in Klamath Falls.
