Scores off Out-oif-Seasbn Hearings Being Planned by Congressional Investigators Washington fU.R) Congres sional investigators today were arranging out-of-session hearings covering everything from Broad way to breweries and from the pulpit to the plow. More than a score of inquiries already are in the works, al though exact dates have not (Tfceen set tm most of them. The subjects cover a variety of topics, including dope ped dling, bakeries, juvenile delin quency, constitutional rights, au tomation, power policies, ma chine tools, and the stock mar ket. The probing lawmakers will . scatter to almost every corner of the country, giving thousands of Americans their first on-the-scene look at a live congression alhearing.; Subversive Hunters Headlines may come out of the house un-American Activities Committee's foray in search of Subversives in radio and tele vision and the Broadway theater. -The Senate Internal Security Subcommittee also will be hunt ing subversives in various parts of the country. In one of the most elaborate studies, the Senate Agriculture Committee will hold public hear ing at 17 points in 16 states on the farm program. Senate Small Business Sub committee will range the coun try for hearings on financial problems of small business. Religion has its place on the investigating agenda. A Senate Judiciary subcommittee on con stitutional rights has scheduled hearings on separation of church and state. Power Influence A House Government Opera tions Subcommittee will study the influence of private power groups of the Eisenhower ad ministration's power policies. Another government operations j group will look into the admin istration's placing of retired gen erals in civilian jobs, while a House Small Business Subcom mittee will delve into charges that the White House is using regulatory agencies as a "politi cal arm." A Senate Banking Subcommit tee will continue its investiga tion of the housing program. Another may investigate the proxy fight in the Libby, Mc Neill and Libby Co. The same se curities subcommittee also may study the impact of stock mar- Carl Ludwig Ends 31 Years With City Carl R. Ludwig, 511 Austin st., recently retired after 31 years of service to the city water de partment, according to Robert Lee, assistant water superin tendent. Ludwig completed his service in the position of Utility Worker III on Aug. 1. Lee said. Ludwig started as blacksmith in the water department in 1924. Lee added that Ludwig was "faithful and hard-working in his job." Ludwig is retiring under the Public Employee's Retire ment system of the state of Oregon. t W I) ' I . The sub committee also will hold hear ings on the machine tool indus try, the New Jersey gasoline price war, and the effects of mergers on small business. Meat Regulations Hearing Scheduled Hearings on the proposed pilot program for meat regulations will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, in Grants Pass, and Friday, Aug. 12, in Klamath Falls, according to M. E. Knickerbocker, chief of the animal division industry. The hearings, scheduled by the state department of agricul ture, will be held at the Grants Pass county courthouse annex at 8 p.m. In Klamath Falls, they will be held at 8 p.m. in the State Department of agriculture offices at 2237 South Sixth st. Other meetings on the regula tions will be held in Portland, Salem, Eugene, Redmond and Ontario. . Amendment Added To Pinball Ordinance Portland i(U.R) The Port land city council yesterday amended the 1951 anti-pinball ordinance to include slotless pin ball machines. The amendment, however, would not go into effect for 30 days. John F. Reynolds, attorney for Portland Amusement Com pany, said the proposal probably would, be refered to voters. About 12,000 signatures would be needed to bring the matter to a public vote. The amendment bans all amusement devices in which there is an element of chance, leading pinball operator Stan Terry to charge that it was so broad that coin-operated tele vision sets and toy pinball ma chines for children also would be illegal in the city. Grange Central Point Grange Central Point Grange will meet Friday, Aug. 5, at 8:30 p.m'. Juvenile number for the pro gram is to be presented by Elaine Young. Agricultural committee has charge of the display table.
