TEN MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, Auguit 5, 1955 (Indians Seat Yankees, 6-3; Bums Move 15V2 Games Ahead By CARL LUNDQUIST United Presi Sporli Writer If the Yankees don't snap out of it, that hot five team pennant race in the American League will be reduced to four and the once proud Bronx Bombers will be in the second division. They have fallen apart since July 4 when they went into that traditional pennant, yardstick date leading the league by 6V2 games for their biggest margin o of the year. Since then they have won 11 eames and lost 13. Now look at what the other pennant hopefuls have done over the same period. Boston has traveled at the fast est pace with 20 wins and 9 losses, Cleveland is almost as hot at 20-11 and Chicago, on top by two percentage points, is 20-12 Detroit's pace is 19-13. During their prolonged slump the Yankees were 0-3 against the Tigers, who came in for a three-game series tonight, 2-3 against the Indians, 2-4 against the White Sox and 0-2 against the Red Sox. Even the second division teams hold no terror The Yankees are 0-1 with Balti more and 4-4 with Kansas City in that stretch, holding an ad vantage over only one club, Washington, at 3-1. Yankees Drop To Third The Indians dropped the Yan kees to third place with a 6-3 triumph Thursday on a three- run homer by Vic Wertz, while the rambunctious Red Sox climbed to within two games of the top with another victory over Chicago, 7-3. Detroit missed Ct opportunity to gain by drop ping a 9-6 slug session with Washington while Ed Lopat won Ih is first game for Baltimore, 8-1, (an eight-hitter. The Bea vers scored three unearned runs in each game. Pinch-hitter Eddie Basinski slapped a tie-breaking single to center in the top of the 10th in ning of the second game to back up Bob Alexander's sterling re lief performance.
