Shapley, world-renowned phy sicist believes the U.S. satellite project will add knowledge that will bring space flight nearer. But Shapley said in an inter view that "the possibilities of human flight in space are not changed by anything revealed at this time." Shapley, formerly of Harvard University, is now connected with Ihe National Bureau of Standards at Boulder, Colo. He is vice chairman of the U.S. Na tional Committee. f?r the Inter national Geophysical Year. 40 Nations Taking Part The planned satellitee project is related to the "year," which is designed to study the earth sr.d its neighbors. Some 40 na tions are participating. The satellite, about the size of a basketball, will be ejected about 300 miles into space where it will circle the earth. "This project will increase knowledge concerning the en vironment through which space ships will have to traverse," Shapley said. "Such information must be obtained before a space flight, and in this way the satellite project Is bringing space flight nearer." Oregon Airmen To Be Airlifted To Oklahoma Portland U.R) Plans were being made today to airlift some 500 officers and airmen of the 403rd troop carrier wing from Oregon to Oklahoma for two weeks of active duty. The men will be carried in C-124 Globemasters from Larson AFL, Wash. Training will start August 7 and end August 21.
