BORIC ACID STILL BELONGS IN MEDICINE CUPBOARD One poor soul writes me that at lasthe has found a druggist who sells him at nominal cost nitroglycerin tablets whenever he needs a supply a vial of 20 tablets, each tablet containing 1 200th of a grain of nitrogly cerin. I don't know, but I assume the druggist breaks a law or an ordinance when he sells nitro glycerin without a prescription. If so, I honor him for it. It is a cruel thing, putting the person in need of nitrogly cerin to the trouble, delay and expense of getting a prescrip tion for it. Cruel, though legal. I don't know how long this restriction on the sale of nitro glycerin has been in effect, but I suspect the restriction was applied some time after I began recommending that individuals subject to certain heart andor artery troubles should always carry a few nitroglycerin tablets in pocket or pocket-book and take, one upon the slightest threat of distress, and repeat the dose in five minutes if necessary details in booklet C V D for which send 25c and stamped, self-addressed envelope. I know a similar restriction was applied to the sale of such innocuous items as citrate of soda, iron and ammonium cit rates, salicylic acid only after the popular demand for these items, which I recommended to readers, threatened to reduce the sales volume of more pro fitable nostrums. Robeson Passport Fight To Continue Washington (U.R) The State Department has decided to con tinue its fight against giving Negro singer Paul Robeson a passport, a department spokes man said today. The department's decision con trasts with its more flexible at titude, adopted after a recent series of court rebuffs, of grant ing passports to some Americans who had been refused them in recent years. - Robeson earlierthis year filed suit in U. S. District Court to require Secretary of State John Foster Dulles to grant him a passporj. His passport was can celled in August, 1950 on grounds Robeson's travels were not in the national interest. The Justice Department filed an answer in April to Robeson's original suit in which it said he had not exhausted all the admin istrative procedures for getting the passport. Robeson then filed a motion asking that Dulles be ordered to give him a passport. Well, sir, 'after the panic had passed the doctors who had made the original report, of alleged poisoning of infants by absorp tion of boric acid from borated talcum powder and other ex ternal remedies, published in the same medical journal a sequel to their "scientific" report, acknowledging that the test for boric acid in the urine, on which they had based their diagnosis of poisoning, has proved to be unreliable.
