Pensioners must now report immediately to the VA any increase in income which would put him or her in excess of the limitation, If no such report is made, Hol brook added, and if this fact is later disclosed, the pensioner may be required to refund all Dension payments made. CENTRAL DRUG STORE Alain & Central of of the instant circumstances. Indeed, medical authorities I are of various complexions con-j cerning the effects of smoking upon the heart, arteries, blood I pressure, mental efficiency, di gestion and the wind. About the wind, especially "second wind," most authorities agree that one with any athletic ambition can not smoke and still succeed against competition. In my opinion, excessive smok ing almost invariably impairs health. In my opinion, any smoking at all is excessive be fore the age of full growth and development (22 to 25 years). The ill effects manifest them selves in one or more of the I ways already sugested. This is just a health column. If you j have any symptoms tell 'em to your doctor. In my opinion the ill effects of smoking are due mainly to the carbon monoxide in tobac co smoke. I believe none of the bad effects is due to nicotine for the simple reason that the nicotine in tobacco is destroyed by combustion. There is little scientific evi dence that moderate or temper ate smoking does a full-grown person any harm. Excessive smoking, like crap ulous smoking (swinish), glutton- ish, careless or gross), comes easier to the cigarette smoker such as the one who smokes be fore a meal or in the course of a meal; or one who hangs a cigar ette on his lip on any and all oc casions; or one who lights a cig arette without caring or asking whether smoking may be offen sive to non-smokers nearby; or the one who smokes while pre tending to be at work. Most disgusting is the character who brings her nightclub manners in to the home, strews ashes and stubs in her wake, burns the fur niture and napery and tries to conceal the damage until she can make her get-away. This cne makes a production of light mg a cigarette, as they do in other morons, the fact that she is one. What I have already said about full-grown persons applies to women as well as to men. Moderately or. temperately means w ith self-control and self control implies character. In other woids the moderate or temperate smoker has the habit. If character is weak, self-con- i trol and discipline undeveloped I the habit has the smoker. After I all, excessive indulgence is any- mental character, breathing exercise to help the voice. (E. S.)
