Husky- Aline Mosby voiced Carol will be at least the fifth Trilby when she tackles the role in a musical comedy version of the classic drama on NBC-TV July 30. Carol's romp, with Basil Rath bone as Svengali. has the jazzed up title of "Svengali and the Blonde." As research. NBC suggested Carol take lessons from Miss Young, who created the role for the silent screen, and in the in terests of research I went along for the meeting. The 1915 movie version cost S10.000. compared to 5100.000 for a one-night stand on today's television. Bohemian Paris But Miss Young outdid Carol by acting in her birthday suit. It was done with guillotine, a sliding blade ring knife called the tonsillotome. It is a minor operation, as com pared with the dangerous major operation called tonsillectomy. It is instantaneous and no more dangerous to the child than the extraction of a tooth is to an adult. Nor more painful, at the time of operation or afterward, with or without a general or lo cal anesthetic. The ever-ready operators who insist on "tonsillectomy" for children whose main trouble is obstruction of the breathing pass ages prate about the importance of "getting every bit of tonsil tissue" as though tonsil tissue were malignant. The truth is that more or less tonsile tissue re mains in the throat after most such operations. So it comes to this: Tonsillectomy removes more of the normal tissue than tonsillotomy does. So what? Let the ever-ready operators answer, if they can. The large tonsils of children I are usually just enlarged, not i infected. In most instances they I shrink to normal size in the sum mer if the children play outdoors as much as they should. There fore when the ever-ready opera tor urges immediate removal of the child's "bad tonsils" in the winter or spring, give the child a break wait and see what the good old summertime will do for those "bad tonsijs." Neubeiger (D-Ore.) said today he has urged the Fed eral Power Commisison to ap prove an application of the Pa cific Power and Light Company for a 74.000 kilowatt power in stallation on the Lewis river in Washington. Neuberger said he favors gov ernment development of main stream multipurpose sites in the region. But, he added, private companies should "play a vital role" in meeting power demands by developing sites on smaller streams. In Portland, a spokesman for PP&L said the firm appreciated Neuberger's support but added that participation of local utili ties is needed in large as well as small developments.
