Dolores Del Rio
Back in Hollywood
Hollywood (U.R) Mexican
actress Dolores Del Rio, who has
returned to Hollywood after a
12-year absence, blamed some
parts of the Mexican press to
day for reports she had Commun
ist leaning.
The 47-year-old beauty, once
one of Hollywood's top stars, ar
rived by airliner from Mexico
City for a week's visit Wednes
day and promptly declared she
is not now and never has been
a Communist.
"I ant a Catholic," she said,
"and I regard this country as I
do my own. I am terribly ex
cited and happy to be back."
She said reports she had Com
munist leanings arose nine
months ago when she applied
to the U. S. Department of State
for a visa to come to Hollywood
to appear in a film. Because the
visa was slow in being granted,
she said some parts of the Mex
ican press "jumped to conclu
aions." Miss Del Rio said the visa
never was denied and the U.S.
embassy in Mexico City told her
three months ago he could pick
up her visa whenever she de
aired. She came here to act as maid
of honor at Wednesday night's
wedding of her friend, wealthy
hotelman Hernando Court
wright, and Marcelle Eva Cuil
lery, prominent Mexico City so
cialite. Miss Del Rio, still regarded as
Mexico City's top star, said she
had made numerous pictures in
her native country, Spain and
Argentina in the past 12 years.

Delay in Choosing
Recreation Site Hit
Portiand (U.R) City Com
missioner William A. Bowes to
day criticized the delay in
choosing a site for the proposed
S8. 000,000 exposition-recreation
center here.
Bowes, who returned from an
unsuccessful attempt to attract
the Junior Chamber of Com
merce's 1957 national conven
tion to Portland, said the time
had come to "get down to the
cold facts" about the need for
the structure in downtown Port
land. The reason he was unable to
attract the Jaycee convention,
he said, was because of the lack
of such a structure close to the
downtown area. The 1957 con
vention will be held in Milwau
