TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Daughter Of Governor Is Married Salem Jim Fred Dollard and his bride, the former Miss Vir ginia Patterson, daughter of Gov. and Mrs. Paul L. Patterson, will make their home in Tulsa, Okla., after a wedding trip to the Ore gon coast and the Oregon Caves. They were married in rites Sun day, July 17, at Salem in the First Congregational church. Crimson carnations and blue delphiniums decorated the church and the Rev. Julian Kciser officiated. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dollard, Claremore, Okla. The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. Her gown was designed with a Chantilly lace bodice with pearl trim and the full tulle skirt of net over silk was waltz length. Her fingertip veil was of Irish lace and had been worn by her mother and a sister. A pearl trimmed cap held the veil in place and she carried a cascade bouquet of Happiness red roses Mrs. John Lane Smithson, sister of the bride, was her honor attendHnt. Mrs. Smithson wore a dress of ice blue chiffon over taffeta and her flowers were crimson carnations. The maid of honor was Miss Arliss Barnes of Anaheim, Calif. Her gown was of crimson chiffon over taffeta and she carried ice blue delphiniums. Karen Kristin Smithson, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her ice blue taffeta dress was trim " mod with a lace-edged bertha collar and her flowers were crim son carnations and delphiniums. James Olson was best man. Ushers were John Lane Smith son and Wesley Allen Cook. At the reception which fol lowed in the church rooms, Mrs. LeRoy Bowdish, the bride's great-aunt, and Mrs. L. Glenn Hall, Oakland, Calif., the bride's aunt, poured. Mrs. Wesley Allen Cook and the Misses Blanch Britton, Jean Percy, Kathryn Kroeger and Carol Hardie assisted at the re ception. The couple plan to be in Tulsa by August 1. Service League Annual Party Held at Graffs Junior Service league mem bers gave the annual summer party last Sunday evening, with husbands of members as guests. The event was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Graff on Hillside drive, and about 70 at tended. Swimming preceded a barbe cue supper. Mrs. R. E. Hibbs was general chairman, with Mrs. Robert Cun ningham assisting. Medford Couple Home From Europe Mr. and Mrs. E. B. DeVoe have returned to their home on Glen Oak court after spending the past several weeks traveling in Europe. The trip included a . stay with their son-in-law and daughter, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Sheridan W. Davitt in Athens, Greece. The DeVoes were in England, visiting friends and relatives of Mrs. DeVoe in Wales, and also traveled in Holland, Belgium, France and Italy. Mr. DeVoe, a lumberman, and his wife were particularly in terested in the forests of England and the continent, and comment ed on the fact that they are extremenly well kept and are used for the recreation and pleasure of everyone. The trip was in the nature of a cruise on the Caronia, and the travelers returned to the United States on the Media. Coffeens Hosts At Family Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Coffeen, 108 Stewart avenue, were hosts Wednesday evening for a dinner served in the yard at their home. The event was attended by 42 persons, 41 of them being rela tives. At the event were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ruch. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Squire and Gerald Squire, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Squire Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Aldrich and Danny, Mrs. Gerald Calhoun, Pamela, Johnny, Rocky and Sterling; Mrs. Lena Burleson of Yakima. Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caster. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Caster and Ronnie: Mr. and Mrs. Norman Caster and Dennis; Gor don Lee Caster; Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Rhoads, Klamath Falls, and Mrs. A. M. Ha if I 1 ' r1uiyj4li9i5iSummer parties In Valley News; Visitors Arrive Mr. and Mrs. Archie Fries Jr. Several parties and numerous visitors have made recent social news. One of the largest of the sum mer social events was an out door party given last evening by Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Buffington and MY. and Mrs. David Holmes. Guests were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Holmes on Hillcrest-Phoenix road for cocktails and a hay-ride party followed. A chuck-wagon supper was served at the ranch home of the Buffingtons. About 115 guests attended. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dillon, San Mateo, Calif., who with their son, Ger ald, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Holmes. Mr. Dillon will return home soon, with Mrs. Dillon and Gerald remaining for a longer visit. 'Also among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hazelton, San Marino, Calif., who are spend ing a few days in Medford with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Alley, 3 Greenway circle. The Hazeltons flew to Medford in their plane. The visitors and the Alleys en joyed a picnic on the Rogue river earlier in the week. (Brainerd photo) Fries-Benson Wedding Held At First Presbyterian Church An event of Sunday, July 17, was the wedding of Josephine Haupert Benson to Archie Clinton Fries Jr. The double ring cere mony was read at two o'clock at First Presbyterian church, with the Rev. John Reynolds officiating. The reception which followed was at the home of. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Haupert, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, 2123 Capital avenue. For the ceremony the bride wore a dress of pink and white checked polished cotton with full pleated skirt and white lace and rhinestone trim. Her small hat was trimmed with sequins and she carried a colonial bou quet of stephanotis centered with a pink orchid. The bride was attended by her twin sister, Mrs. R. E. Mencke, and Mr. Mencke served as best man for Mr. Fries. Mrs. Mencke wore a frock of white batiste with full skirt and blue velvet trimming, and carried a colonial bouquet of pink carnations. Mr. Haupert gave his sister in marriage and ushers were Robert L. Fries, son of the bride groom, Kenneth S. Campbell and Fred M. Gatter. The church was decorated with large baskets of pink and white gladiolus and laurel leaves and two seven-branched candel abra held white candles. Sprays of laurel and white bows decor ated the candelabra. Mrs. Stanley Lacy sang "Wed ding Prayer." At the reception Mrs. Haupert cut the wedding cake and pour ing were Mrs. Gatter, Mrs. S. B. Milne and Mrs. Campbell. The bride's table was covered with a pink tablecloth and the cen terpiece was of pink and white gladiolus and daisies. The newlywed couple made a wedding trip to Yachats, Ore., and are living at 2317 East Main street. The bride, a daughter of Mrs. L. Josephine Haupert, 2123 Cap ital avenue, attended Drake uni versity and Iowa State college and is a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She is a secretary for the Haupert Tractor company here. Mr. Fries is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fries, Portland. He is manager of the new Ashland branch of the United States Na tional bank. In Medford for the wedding were Miss Grace Tripp, aunt of the bride, Mrs. E. L. Young, cous in of the bride, and Mr. Young, all of Modesto, Calif. Families To Hold Annual Picnic At Park Sunday The Houston - Rodgers family picnic, an annual event, is sched uled for Sunday, July 31, at Tou Velle park, on the north side of Bybee bridge on the Rogu-i River. "Both the Houston and Rodgers' families are pioneers of the Beagle area. All friends and relatives of either family are invited to meet at 12 noon, in the north end of the park. The picnic lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Each person attending is asked to take his own table service and beverage. Relatives Visit At Hagerty Home Recent guests of Mrs. F. R. Hagerty, 211 Cottage street, and her brother A. R. Clement were their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Clement and daughter, Lorraine, of Santa Rosa, Calif. Miss Clement is a teacher in the public schools of Santa Rosa. Entertaining for the guests were the daughters of A. R. Cle ment, Mrs. Martin Clogston and Mrs. Chester Guches. and his son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Clement. The California family has visited in Medford a number of times in the past several years and continued north for the bal ance of their vacation trip. He was formerly with a Santa Rosa newspaper firm. Mr. and Mrs. George McGill and Mr. and Mrs. Don Herried will be hosts this evening for a swimming and cocktail party at the McGill home on Black Oak drive. About 100 guests have been bidden to the party. A guest of the McGills last week was Mrs. James Hubbard, Eugene, and earlier this month Donnie Michel of Los Angeles was a guest of the McGill's son, Cary. Last Saturday Dr. and Mrs. B. Brant Bartels, 35 Valley View drive entertained at a cocktail party which honored Mrs. Bar tels' parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J Merritt of Colorado. The Mer- ritts had been guests of the Bartels for a month, and the party was in the nature of a farewell. Luthers Return From Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Martin Luther Jr., Fern Valley road, arrived home Saturday after vacation ing last week at Crescent lake. They were accompanied home by their twin daughters, Midi and Marta, and the girls', cousin, Laine Donker of Pasadena, Calif. The children had been for a month vacationing at Camp Tam arack near Sisters, Ore. The Luthers drove there Saturday from the lake to return them home. Mrs. Helene Salade Donker will arrive about August 1 from Pasadena to join her daughter and to visit her mother, Mrs. Lillian Salade; her sister and family, the Martin Luthers Jr., and her brother, William Salade, and family, Old Stage road. Newlyweds Make Home In Eugene Mr. and Mrs. Richard Iven are living at Eugene following their wedding June 25 in St. Mary's Catholic church there and a wedding trip to the Oregon coast. The bride is the former Miss Charlotte Laemmle, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Laemmle of Eugene. The bride groom's parents, who went north for the wedding, are Mr. and Mrs. Ted Iven, 322 Laurel street. Others from Medford who at tended the ceremony were Miss Honora Malone. aunt of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Sterton, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rickman and daughter and George Green Jr. The Very Rev. Edmund J. Murnane performed the double ring ceremony at 10 o clock m the morning. Calla lilies and white stock were used to dec orate the church. The bride's father escorted her to the altar. Her gown was of satin trimmed with Chantilly lace. It was designed with a tight bodice, a drape about the waist of self material which ended in a bustle at the back, and chapel length train. A halo-shaped hat of satin covered with lace held her fingertip veil. Mrs. Benjamin Andreason was matron of honor, and other at tendants were Mrs. Milan Ja cobs, Mrs. Jack Ragus and Mrs. William Clausen. Their gowns were of mint green taffeta with darker green sashes and match ing portrait hats. They carried nosegays of asters and Shasta daisies. Robert Iven, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. Rodger Sterton, Neil Iven, another brother of the bride groom, and William Clausen seated the guests. The reception was held at the Woman's club in Eugene. Miss Elizabeth Ing poured. Miss Mari lyn McWilliams and Mrs. Arthur E. Dillon served punch and the bride's cake was cut by Mrs. John Breeden and Mrs. Andrew Andreason. Miss Gail Laemmle, a sister of the bride, had charge of the guest book. The bride's mother wore a wheat colored dress and white accessories and Mrs. Iven's dress was blue and her accessor ies pink. Both wore orchid corsages. Other out-of-town guests in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Robert Iven and family, Hennessey, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Neil Iven and fam ily, San Bernardino, Cain;., Mrs. Julia Rocha, grandmother of the bride. Oakland, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Martin great aunt and uncle of the bride, also from Oakland, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Heinig, Milwaukie, Ore. The bride was graduated from St. Mary's school in Eugene and the bridegroom from St. Mary's school, Medford. He is with Family Returns Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benesh, 12 North Keeneway drive, ar rived home Friday from a vaca tion trip to Oklahoma City and Stillwater. Okla. Garnett and two sons, Harold and George, are here from Davenport, la , to visit Mrs. Garnett's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Sutherlin, 1217 West Eleventh street. Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Garnett entertained at a party which observed the fifth birth day anniversary of George, in viting relatives to her parents' home. Refreshments were served following swimming and games. Guests were Warren Cooper, Joe and Louise Workman and Harold Garnett, counsins and brother of the honored guest, also Mrs. James. Hanson, Mrs. Jack Workman and Mrs. Bill Williams. To Arrive Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Erwin and family of San Francisco are to arrive Mon day to vacation in the valley. They will be houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Morgan, 1204 Second street, Gold Hill. Pierce Freight company and was transferred from Medford to Eugene about a year ago. .. Plans Announced For Annual Picnic Of Masonic Bodies The annual picnic for all master Masons in the valley and their families and guests will be held at Jackson Hot springs Sunday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m. Coffee, soft drinks and ice cream will be supplied by the sponsoring bodies and members are requested to take a picnic lunch and table service. Free swimming and games for the children and softball and horseshoes for those interested are being planned. Sponsors of the picnic are Medford Blue lodge, Reames chapter, OES, Crater Lake chap ter, RAM and Table Rock coun cil, R&SM. Cruisers To Hold Barbecue Dinner Cruisers club. First Presby terian church, has planned a barbecue dinner Monday, July 25 at the home of Dr. and Mrs Bert Elliott, Jacksonville-Cen tral Point highway. The event is set for 6:45 p.m Those attending are asked to take a salad or dessert and table service. Medford Artists Win Awards at Grants Pass Show "Sea Fever," an oil painting done by Clifford Platz, Medford, won him a blue ribbon in the : oils division of the annual art : show sponsored by the Grants ; Pass chapter American Associa tion of University Women held at Grants Pass last week. Honorable mentions in oils ' went to Warren Wolf and Robert Miller both of Medford. Mrs. Charles Todd, Camp White, re ceived an honorable mention for her entry in the black and white division. Titles of the pictures were "Sculptural Structure." by Mr. Wolf: "View of Depoe Bay," by Mr. Miller, and "Fisherman"! Wharf," by Mrs. Todd. Judges for the show were Dr. Wallace S. Baldinger, curator of the University of Oregon Muse um of art at Eugene, and associ ate professor of history of art at the university; and Nelson Sandgren, teacher of painting and design at Oregon State col lege for the past seven years. Visitors Leave After Stay Here Mr. and Mrs. Dean Earhart, Portland, left for their home Saturday after visiting here with Mr. Earharfs parents, Dr. aTid Mrs. S. D. Earhart, 11 North Peach street. The young man is a student at the University of Oregon Dental college in Port land.
