Local and Sister Visits Mrs. Fay Clem- mer of Brookings visited several days this week at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Johnson, 510 South Newtown st. Permit Issued A building permit was issued this week to D. G. Root, 340 Saginaw dr., for the erection of an $18,000 resi dence, according to records on file at the city hall. Attend Market Bill Laurine and Gene Dyke will return today from San Francisco where they attended the Furniture Mart. The two men are owners of the Laur ine and Dyke Furniture and Rug Mart here. . Incorporate Articles of in corporation of the California Oregon Hereford Breeders as sociation have been filed in the Jackson county recorder's of fice by J. W. Bigham, John Boh- nert, Earle Jossy. John Clifford and D. K. Nichols. From North Bend Mrs George Hemple and sons, George Jr., and John, North Bend, are visiting for two weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. v. Collins, while Mrs. Collins is working for the time at West Coast Lumber company. Visitors Leave Mr. and Mrs. George Terry, Long Beach, Calif., visited for several days with Mr. and Mrs. George Felt man, 637 Pennsylvania ave. They were en route from the Yellowstone National park and they left for their home the first of the week. Rockhounds to Meet The Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral club will meet for a potluck supper at the home of the club's president, Harry Marx, 309 Portland ave., at 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, it was reported this morning. At Community Richard Sanford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Sanford, Jacksonville, is listed today as a surgery patient at Community hospital, and Miss Joan Christopher, 1207 East Jackson st., is a medical patient there. Oa Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Francis McCarty, are visiting in Los Angeles on vacation. They left Saturday and will visit for about two weeks. Mrs. McCarty is women's ready-to-wear depart ment buyer for Mann s Depart ment store. . . Californians Visit Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Jackson, daughter Carolyn and son Skippy, San Lorenzo, Calif., were overnight guests Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Clara McKee, 718 Grant st. It was the first time in 14 years that the families had met. Jack son is a brother-in-law of Mrs. McKee. . Elected Ben Schmidt, 3490 South Pacific highway, was elected this week to chairman of the counsel of Camp Farthest out at Menucha near Crown Point on the Upper Columbia river. He and Mrs. Schmidt have just re turned from visiting there for a week. The camp is made up of an interdenominational group. Son Visits Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Williams,' 209 Church St., Phoenix, have as visitors their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Williams, Philadelphia, Pa., from July 18 through 28. He is a Phoenix High school graduate and now is employed in electronic work as a technician. Return Home Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Powers and family, 635 Palm st., returned recently from a vacation to Oakland, Calif., where they visited - relatives Powers is employed by the Nor field Shoe store, 221 East Main st, and Mrs. Powers is employed as a beautician at Cook's Beauty Clinic, 528 East Main st. Greeters to Visit Members of the Greeters committee of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will meet at the Med ford hotel at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow for a trip to Rogue River lodge, Trail. The group will leave by car about 7, arriving for a 7:30 a.m. breakfast. The committee was invited by Mrs. Montana Gilhousen, operator of the lodge. From St. Helens Mrs. Har old Benson and children, David and Linda, 1915 Hazel st., have returned from St. Helens, Ore., where they visited Mrs. Benson's father. She is employed in the bookkeeping department at First National bank, Medford branch. They were there for a week and Mrs. Benson returned to work the first of this week. - Bad Checks Bad checks were passed in three Medford busi ness establishments yesterday, according to city police. Dad's Hideaway, 1182 Court St., cash ed a check for $10, Jack's Sport ing Goods, 1232 Court st., cash ed a counter check totaling $20, and David's Restaurant & Sup ply, 40 North Front st, cashed a check payable to the store for $238.30, officers said. - Sell Ranch Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Street, of the Applegate, have sold their Lazy GM ranch to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Widner, Los Angeles, Mrs. Street report ed today. The Streets have pur chased a home in the San Fer nando valley, and also are buil ding a home on Camp Baker rd., she added. The sale of the 400-acre ranch included about 25 head of cattle, Mrs. Street said. Good Condition Jack Rae, 41, star route, Selma, a Cali fornia Oregon company em ployee, was brought Tuesday noon to Medford from Happy Camp, Calif., by private plane after he had accidently chopped his leg while working, according to Medford ambulance men. He is reported in good condition to day at Sacred Heart hospital where he was taken for treat ment. . . Convalescent Miss Ha Col lins, Portland, returned home the first of the week after visit ing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen E. Curtis, 2585 How ard ave., and her brothers, V. N. Collins, Robert Collins and Walt er Collins, and their families. Glen E. Curtis is convalescing at Sacred Heart hospital from sur gery. Others who have been vis iting Curtis and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Buck and children, Ronnie and Merelen, of Etna, Calif. Slight Injuries Mrs. R. F. Douglas, 1044 West 11th st, was released about 5:30 p.m., Tues day from Sacred Heart hospital arter treatment for a chest in jury received a short time ear lier in an automobile accident at Summit and Haven st., ac cording to Medford ambulance and hospital attendants. The car in which Mrs. Douglas was rid ing was' involved in a collision wtih one driven by Elija Settle Sloan, P. O. Box 517, Jackson ville, according to city police. ; . File Claims Jeff Haywood Lemley and Howard Clay have filed a claim for gold, silver and other valuable minerals in the Galls Creek and Foots Creek Mining district, according to records filed in the Jackson county recorder's office. The claim is known as Red Oak No. 2. Lemley listed his address as route 1, box 65, Ashland. A chrome location claim in South ern Jackson county -was filed by Percy Ls Weeks of Happy Camp, Calif. Ashland enlistees are Ray mond LeRoy Powell, 196 Nutley st., and Melvin Tate, 824 Blaine st. From other towns are Leopold Johann Hoser, 128 North First St., Talent, Michael A. ' Sabine, Grants Pass, Ronald B, Miller, Canyonville, Ore., Harvey L. Pebworth, Rogue River, and David A. Schoonover, Wolf Creek, Ore. Larry Owen Mei- moyer and Robert A. Ankney, Weed, Calif., enlisted In Med ford. The men are now all at Parks Air Force Base, Calif., for 54 days of basic training, Campbell added. Station KWRO Seeks Increase of Power Coquille dl.R) Radio station KWRO yesterday filed applica tion with the Federal Communi cations Commission to increase power to 1,000 watts on the 630 kilocycle band, William E. Walsh, president of the firm, ai nounced.' KWRO as well as two other stations in Coos county are currently operating at 250 watts power. S c o 1 1 Milne, 57, president of the AFL International Brotherhood of Electrical . Workers, died of a heart attack today at his farm home at Corbett near here. Milne, whose office is in Washington, D.C, had been va cationing. He became president of the 625,000 member union in March of 1954, succeeding Dan W. Tracy. . Milne had been secretary treasurer of the international union since 1947. Survivors include his wife, Doris, and two sons, Scott Jr., and Robert. Funeral services will be held early next week in Washington, D.C. Two Men Bound Over In District Court Two men were bound over to grand jury after they waived counsel and preliminary hearing in district court yesterday. Wendell Flloyd Long, 33, route 1, Medford, is charged with grand larceny in connec tion with the theft of an auto mobile from Leever Motors, Medford. Edward J. Bolen, 31, of 2882 Stewart ave., Medford, is charged with obtaining mon ey under false pretenses. He is accused of cashing a fraudulent $11 check. Bond was Set at $1,500 each. Fresh Gresham Berries Shipped To Chicago Gresham, Ore. U.R) Gresh am Berry Growers Co-op, yester day sent 2000 crates of fresh raspberries to Chicago, the first such shipment to the east in 30 years. ' ; The co-op decided to try the fresh market in the east because of a surplus of frozen berries which has ' resulted in reduced prices. The carload of berries was reported sold subject to con dition on arrival. The railway express refrigerated car will ar rive in Chicago Friday morning. Portland headquarters of the chain firm warned employees after they walked off the job Friday that they would lose all sick leave, vacations' and other fringe benefits if they did not return to work. The company said strikers would be treated as new employees without sen iority when they came back.
