UR) An act that started Wallv fMr. Prv ers) Cox on a career in show bus iness isn t good enough for Las Vegas. - The Dunes Hotel fired Cox after three shows because Its owners said the act was more suitable for a Bible society than a gambling casino's nightclub. The shy entertainer, who has been living at the hotel, showed up last night at the casino and said he was willing to go on. But the management substituted a musical-novelty act, the "Four Tunes." Material Responsible Al Gottesman, one of the own ers of the Dunes, blamed Cox discharge on the material he prepared for the $44,000 engage ment wmch was to have run for four weeks. . "If he had appeared before a Bible society meeting with that material, he might have lasted. . But not here," Gottesman said. "You can't come here with a nothing act." . Cox said the act he put on was the same .one he had been doing for several years with slight modifications on the stage, in New York and Hollywood night y clubs and on television. "It's the same act that started me in show business," he said sadly. "But they didn't like what I did. They asked me to leave and I feel terrible." Gottesman said the manage ment decided to terminate Cox' engagement because "people walked out in the middle of it."
