(International Soundphato) Blonde Veteran of Africa Safaris Wishes To Display Heminawav's Head on Wall London (U.R) Michaela Denis, a stormy blonde vho is known as "the white goddess" to some African tribes, pointed to the wall of her living room and said she would like to dis play the head of Ernest Heming way on it. "And every other big game hunter who collects the heads of lions, timers and deer," she scowled. "Do you know why they kill? Because they feel the need to assert their virility. Hemingway and the others must have a terrible sense of inse curity to have to kill animals." On Seven Safaris I fear for the Nobel prize winner and his stalking friends if they had appeared at that mo ment. Mrs. Denis once chucked a flirtatious lady over a coffee table for making eyes at her husband, Armand Denis, who hunts the wild beasts of the jungle with only a camera. . She has been on seven safaris to the wilder parts of our world and is believed to be she won't admit it a "munganga" or sood witch, with certain powers possessed-by these sor ceresses of the Oka tribe of Africa. Swing Through Africa In her apartment cluttered with native masks, African and Australian curios and an assort ment of live pets, the Denises are preparing for the first safari soonsored by commercial tele vision. They leave in about three weeks for a long swing through Africa, sending back film of their real life adventures. A vast array of cosmetics is going with her. "I always wear lipstick, eye brow pencil, pancake founda tion and even eye shadow," she said. "It helps keep up the morale of the . safari, protects the skin and the natives simply love it. People are the same the world over. Mrs. Denis believes. She once showed a pinup of Marilyn Monroe to a native deep in the heart of Africa. What did he do? "He gave a wolf whistle," she said. Friday, July 15, 1953 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THREE Deportation Trial Of Bridges Develops Into Contradictions San Francisco U.B The de naturalization trial of West Coast labor leader Harry Bridges has Hevelnned into a series ol sharp and direct contradictions in the testimony of government and de fense witnesses. The 54-year-old president of the International Longshore men's and Warehousemen's Un ion is fighting the government's fourth attempt to have him de ported to his native Australia for falsely denying affiliation wren the Communist Party when he received his citizenship in 1945. Yesterday Bruce Jones, an ex plosive, snuff-chewing witness for the defense, took the stand to challenge the testimony of star government witness John Schomaker. Schomaker, an admitted ex- Communist, testified earlier that Jones recruited Bridges into the Communist Party over a cup of coffee. But Jones denied that he recruited the longshore leader in the party, said he had never collected party dues from Bridges nor turned over an ap plication by the defendant to Communist Party officials. When Jones, another admitted ex-Communist, first took the stand, defense attorney Richard Gladstein asked the witness to remove whatever he had in his mouth. The witness took out a large wad of snuff to the amusement of the courtroom and plopped it into a wastebasket near Federal Judge Louis E. Goodman. Under cross-examination, Asst. U.S. Atty. Robert Schnacke asked Jones if he was still a member of the Communist Party. "That's a very difficult ques tion, your honor," the longshore man replied. "Because if I say I am a member, he can bring in a half dozen Matusows, Paul Crouches and others to say I am not a member. "If I say I am not, he can bring in those same mental pros titutes to say I am." When pressed by the judge to answer the question, Jones re plied: "In order to be a member of the Communist Party you have to pay dues and pack a book, and I haven't done it since 193Z." Earlier yesterday, Davie L Saunders, a former Communist Party waterfront organizer, testi fied that he lied on many occa sions" to conceal Bridges' mem bership in the Communist Party. Gladstein indicated he would call Saunders' father-in-law, Le roy Moorehouse, to refute Saun ders testimony. Moorehouse would be the "secret witness' promised by the defense during Wednesday's session. Refer Is Chairman For Republican Event Raymond R.
