There Arc Timet When Drastic Action Is Needed When talking to a person about incidents whyrh are caus ing trouble in a family brings no results, then a more drastic sort of attack must be made on the problem. Jhat is what I am trying to explain to the woman who wrote: BUY THE NEW GE Water Heater AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC Y if Wash a Load of Clothes EVERY HOUR . -All Day Long- ONLY $5.00 A. Herlock ever she serves monotonous meals of cheap food so she can save money from the food budget for herself. Did you tell the man he should let his wife have a few dollars, apart from the food money, for her own spending? There are always two sides to .a problem. You have to visualise the other -side as well as the one presented to you in order to give well rounded advice. Poor advice is worse than no advice at all. Bet ter to answer. 'Sorry, sir, this one is beyond me'." - (A) I cannot always give both sides of any problem, because of limitations of space. But; I try never to give advice without having a clear picture of the problem from both sides. Then, too, you must realize that a person who thinks he is being mistreated can suffer just as much damage psychologically as the one who is actually mis treated. Whether the mistreat ment be actual or not, the "sensi tive relationship between hus band .and wife" is upset. When a person has tried every argument in his power to point out something that bothers him and gets no action, then he must try something more, drastic and more dramatic than words. That was what I was trying to stress in my advice to the young rdan who had been unable to make any headway in his argu ments with his wife about the use of the food budget. It is perfectly true that the man who complained about food may have felt that meals' were more important than clothes and was stingy in the amount he gave his wife to spend on her clothes. Around Hollywood 5S By ALINE M0SBY Ualtee) Press Correspondent Editor' note: One of the blgfeit movie idols of all time went out of circulation acain this week when he eloped with beautiful Kay Spreckels. What does this marriage mean to Clark Gable? Will the fifth try last? In a series of three articles. Aline Mosby of the United Press details the life and loves of the king of the film profiles. Hollywood (U.R) When Clark Gable married Kay Speckles, he became a "parent" for the first time at 54, re gained his lost feeling of youth and turned the tide of his slipping ca reer. . Friends of the popular king of movie Aline Mosby idols believe, in short, that his fifth marriage will mean a new Gable. The graying actor kept to himself after the tragic death of wife No. 3, Carole Lombard, in 1942, except for a brief turn with wife No. 4, Sylvia Ashley. He hadn't starred in a win ning picture, either at the box office or with the critics, since before the war. He was known in Hollywood as "conservative, nearly bash ful," a lonely figure who didn't vince him that he was wrong about this by the tactics she was using. I question whether any sensible person would feel that clothes should come before a well-balanced, well - prepared diet ,for a family. (COPYRIGHT 1955, GENERAL FEATURES CORP.) The New Gable But since he and Kay re kindled an old flame a year ago, Gable has changed. A big movie queen once con fided that Gable "would never marry me because I have chil dren and he doesn't like chil dren." Yet the big-eared actor is overjoyed, friends say, at sharing his life with Kay's two children from her marriage to sugar king Adolph Spreckles. When Gable went on location to Hong Kong for a 20th Cen tury Fox picture, . "Soldier of Fortune," he bought pajamas for little Joan, 4, and Adolph III, 6. He returned from "The Tall Men" location in Mexico loaded with "charro" outfits for the youngsters. To his friends he fre quently talks about Kay's "won derful, adorable kids, so well behaved," as if they were his own. Builds New Home Gable also has "recaptured his youth," his pals say. The vi brant Kay, 17 years his junior, is a witty, fun loving com panion. Since courting her he bought a white, snappy sports car. For the first time he is build ing another home away from the 20-acre ranch in nearby En cino which he acquired during his marriage to Carole Lombard. Gable bought land for a house near his and Kay's favorite, golf course, the Thunderbird at Palm Springs. His movie career has taken a turn for the better. Gable asked Kay for advice on picking his co-stars. She sat in on previews of his two recent pictures at Fox studio. She even helped with theTcasting of other players in "The Tall Men." Friends of Gable say "The Tall Men" is "the best thing he's done in years. Now that his personal life is back on the beam, his pictures probably will be better." .Though Gable has been .one of the most acclaimed picture idols of all time, his personal life has not won any awards.
