'Actress Suzan Ball On Brink of Death From Lung Cancer . Hollywood U.R) Courageous. suzan bui, iearea aying wiui cancer of the lungs, fought for her life in a sanitarium today while her film star friends of fered hopes and prayers. The beautiful 22-y e a r-old actress lost her right leg to carr eer 18 months ago but refused to abandon her career. City of Hope Sanitarium re vealed Wednesday the malig nancy has spread. An official announcement said she was ad mitted July 5 for "tumors and allied diseases" and is in "seri ous condition." Oa Brink of Death .But hospital sources revealed further she suffers from cancer of the lungs. Several times in the past week she has been on the brink of death. 4-H identification Contests Slated At Fairgrounds Plant Identification contest for Jackson county 4-H club boys Will be held at Bigham hall at the fair wounds July 20, Earle Jossy, county extension agent. has announced. The contest ww start at 1 p.m. . Two winners. of the contest will be eligible to attend an expense . paid range camp in Grant county the first week of August Jossy was chosen by the Pacific Northwest section of the American Society of Range Management as county commit teeman to assist in choosing local boys and help raise schol arships to send them to camp. Boys between 14 and 18 years old are eligible for camp, one day of which will be devoted to vijiting several range livestock ranches near Seneca. -Subjects Subjects taught at camp in clude Identification of plants, use of hunting and fishing equip ment, surviving in the woods, what to do if lost, and problems involving range management in both open sagebrush and forest nd. ' Contests, including one find ing and naming plants grown in the area, will be held. The plant identification con test will be open to 4-H club and JTA members, Jossy said. The Jackson County Livestock .asso ciation and the Jackson County Young. Summer Band Classes Schedule Last Period The last two weeks of the Medford summer band program will start Monday, July 18, in the Medford High school band room, according to I. A. Mirick, director. Junior High band members for the summer will meet-Monday at 7 p.m. City band and high school band members will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. Concerts during the last week of July are planned bf the city grade school band, junior high band; and city band.- They will be held in the old city park, and there x will be no admission charge. Survivors said the 145-ton coatal freighter was carrying too many passengers, a heavy oil cargo in her hold and an automobile on her deck. A few of the 51 passengers and ' 14 crewmembers managed to launch small boats. Most of those aboard were forced to jump into the sea.
