Clark Gable Takes
Former Kay Spreckles
As Bride in Nevada
Minriffn TifV. (U.B A HeW 1
"queen" reigned over Hollywood
today blonde actress Kay Williams.
Miss Williams became the fifth
wife of Clark Gable, the graying,
hp-man actor known as "the
king," in a spur of the moment
ceremony performed by a justice
of the peace here Monday .
After the brief ceremony, the
newlyweds left for a honeymoon
at an undisclosed destination,
possibly Gable's secluded cabin
on the Nevada side of Lake
Tahoe.
Long Friendship
The marriage climaxed 13
years of friendship between the
54-year-old Gable and Miss Wil
liams, 37, whose battles in court
and otherwise with her former
husband, millionaire -playboy
Adolph Spreckels H, made Hol
lywood history-
Gable and Miss Williams al
ways insisted they had no inten
tions of marrying. However,
anonymous tipsters had, tele
phoned news agencies in the last
two weeks that they might be
wed soon.
They got their marriage li
cense only minutes before ap
pearing before Justice of the
Peace Walter Fischer. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth
Williams Nesser of Los Angeles
and Mr. and Mrs. Albert S. Men
asco of St. Helena, Calif.
. Mrs. Nesser was matron of
honor and Menasco was the best
man.
Gable has a cabin at Lake
Tahoe, where he often spends
week ends hunting and fishing in
the early summer. He estab
lished residence there three
years ago to obtain a divorce
from his fourth wife, Lady Syl
via Ashley.
Gable and Miss Williams made
headlines in 1951 when 'Spreck
els testified in a pre-divorce trial
hearing that she told him she
had been intimate with Gable.
Miss Williams denied the accu
sation. Previous Marriages
Gable's previous wives were
drama coach. Josephine Dillon,
Reah Langham, actress Carole
Lombard, who was killed in a
1941 plane crash, and Lady Ash
ley, whom he married in 1949
and divorced in 1952, after re
portedly settling $150,000 on her.
Miss Williams, originally from
Erie, Pa., was married briefly in
1942 to Argentine sportsman
Martin de Alzaga Unzue. In 1945
she married Spreckels and di
vorced him seven years later.
During a series of stormy court
battles, she accused him of beat
ing her, chopping down her door
and using abusive language.
In August, 1953, Spreckels
beat her so severely with a shoe
that she had to go to a hospital.
He spent 30 days in jail for as
sault. ' She won custody of their two
children, JOan 4Vi, and Adolph
III, 6, during the divorce.

A beautiful ftcrure can be
made by attractively framing i
cotton drapery fabric that is
printed with an interesting de
sign. For instance, a Grandma
Moses drapery print framed in
pine makes a charming addition
to a den. Florals and other cotton

decorating schemes.
