Sawdust Burns Firemen with the rural pumper were called to the Sierra Cascade Pine com pany mill on Houston rd. about 3:20 a.m. Thursday when sparks carried by the sawdust conveyor ignited sawdust in the fuel room at the boiler. A slipping belt on a motor was th,e cause of smoke at the Northwest Poultry com pany, 334 East McAndrews rd., Wednesday. Houdesheldt, local recruiter, announced today. RELEASED Harold Walch, son of Mr. , and Mrs. Lloyd Walch, Boardman St., has received his release from the Air Force and now is employed at a mill at White City. He was an airman second class at the time of his discharge and served with the 18th motor vehicle squadron. Walch recently re turned from Okinawa where he served for 18 months. He is a 1951 Medford High school graduate and received basic training at Lackland Air Force base, Tex. IN GERMANY Sfc. James L. Hoffman, whose wife, Louise, lives in Rogue River, recently arrived in Germany and now is a member of the 97th signal battalion. Hoffman, . an aircraft mechanic in the battalion's message cen ter company, has been in the Army five years. He holds the commendation ribbon, the good conduct medal and the Korean service ribbon. ON LEAVE Marine Pvt. Carl fS riin. bury, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. wmiam Dusenbury, 1913 Hazel st., is at home on recruit leave, according to the Marine Corps recruiting office .here. He will be attached to the 1st Marine division at Camp Pendleton, California, after his 10-day leave. A graduate of Crater High school, he enlisted in the corps last January. During- boot train ing he qualified as an expert rifleman, placing second in his platoon. DISCHARGED Henry Chavex hac returned home after receiving his dis charge from the Air Force. He lives at 3 East Clark st., and was a corporal at the time of his dis charge. He enlisted in 1952 after graduation from Medford High school. He had been ill from lukemia for several months. The boy, son of Medford High school's head football coach, was born here on Jan. 18, 1949. The court refused to enforce an NLRB order requiring the firm to stop allegedly preventing employees from joining a union. A local of the AFL Retail Clerks Union brought the origi nal charge in 1952 during an organizational campaign when the company allegedly conducted a secret poll ofemployees on unionization. .
