Rams Have
New Faces
This Season
Portland The Los Angeles
Rams, having undergone a coach
ing shakeup, will also present
many new faces among their
player personnel when they ap
pear here in two pre-season tilts
in August.
They meet the Pittsburgh
Steelers Saturday night, Aug
ust 6, and the New York Giants
Sunday night, August 28. Both
games are billed under the lights
at Multnomah stadium.
However, Sid Gilman. the
"freshman" coach from Cincin
nati U., will rely mainly on
Ram veterans to carry the bulk
of the load in both games, while
testing rookies only if the op
portunity arises.
Foremost- among . the "old
guard" is Norm Van Brocklin,
the Oregon Ail-American who
is ready to start his seventh year
in the National football league.
Van won the " NFL passing
championship for the third time
last year. He's rated the finest
passer in football today and one
of the greatest "long-ball" throw
ers in the history of the game.
Boyd, Fears. Back
Two of Van's favorite receiv
ers. Bob Boyd and Tom Fears
will be back at ends. In the
backfield there will be Skeet
Quinlan and Tank Younger. To
help Van at the quarterback slot
will be Billy Wade, who had a
ensational rookie year in 1954.
Van Brocklin is the chief at
traction in Portland, scene of
some of his greatest collegiate
triumphs, and Promoter Harry
Glickman credits him with hav
ing made the city the strongest
pro-football town in the country
outside those in the league itself.
The mail-order advance is the
heaviest ever, according to Ore
gon Sports attractions, which ex
pects crowds this year to ex
ceed those of the past.
Reserved seats are available
by writing Oregon Sports At
tractions here at 811 SW Wash
