Women outnumber men in the
United States. That is, generally
speaking. However, in the agri
cultural districts men outnumber
women. It is in the cities where
the females are in the majority.
So, young women having diffi
culty in arranging a matrimonial
alliance in the city, might switch
their husband hunting to the
rural sections. Of course, the
city girls may not care for coun
try life. Still it is better having
a husband on the farm than be
ing an old maid In the city. Or is
it?

Union To Ask More
Of American Motors
Detroit (U.R) The CIO United
Auto Workers said yesterday
it would ask for a greater wage
guarantee from American Mo
tors Corp. then it received from
Ford and General Motors "be
cause this company needs it
more."
Leonard Woodcock, UAW vice
President in charge of Ameri
can Motors, said the union would
ask for a full guarantee of 100
per cent of pay for 52 weeks a
year. This was the union's origi
nal guaranteed wage demand
from Ford and General Motors
, but the guarantee was whittled
down to between 60 and 65 per
cent for 26 weeks in the final
agreements with the two auto
motive giants.

Streamlining
Women who consider them
selves too plump and have a de
sire to streamline their figures
should organize. , For example,
12 women, who are interested
in weight reduction, should get
together and see which could
first achieve a streamlined fig
ure. I understand there is such
an organization called "Tops."
That name means "to take
pounds off sensibly." It is said
one "Tops' group was made up
of women who "each weighed
around 150. By exercise and diet
they all got their weight down
to 120 or less in a period of about
two years.

Horses and Women
Over 70,000,000 pairs of so-
called "falsies" were sold in the
United States last year. That
record is expected to be broken
this year. Things were different
in the middle 1920's. At that time
women with figures a la Jane
Russel were flattening out their
forms to be in style. They were
trying to achieve something call
ed "the boyish silhouette. That
style was originated by, that
extremely nicturesque Parisi-
enne, Gabriel Bonheur Chanel.
Young old timers will recall
with a shudder the peculiar ap
pearance of our countrywomen
when they featured the boyish
silhouette."
