Dr. Bay said the theory of the
atom shell is "completely sol
ved" but that the world of the
atom nucleus is still largely un
known. With the help of the "clock"
called a coincidence circuit he
believes the mystery of the
nucleus will be solved "within
the next 10 years or so."
Bay, Hungarian-born natural
ized American, first developed
his "clock" in Budapest during
World Warll. At the time he
could measure up to only a slow
one one-millionth of a second.
With the addition of innova
tions such as the electric mult
ipilier and a photomultiplier,
Bay's "clock" reached its pre
sent potent state.
Bay said he "guesses we're a
little bit ahead of everyone else"
in the time measurement busin
ess "anyway we're not be
