Y.U.R) Perry M. Shoemaker, president of the Lackawanna Railroad, believes the new "piggy-back" system of transporting loaded , truck-trailers on rail flatcars has a great potential. During a visit : to Buffalo, Shoemaker said that the Lacka wanna "expects to be handling whole trainloads of freight-loaded truck-trailers within the next year." ' " Disclosing that the rail "line was spending about $750,000 initially for "piggy-back" equip ment, he noted that the expendi ture included purchase of 100 truck-trailers "of our own" and costs of converting 80 additional flatcars to haul them. "By early April, we'll have 120 piggy-back flatcars and 200 truck-trailers we either own or lease," he said. Shoemaker said the Lacka wanna is winning back freight business it lost to its highway competitors years ago, "and we haven't begun to get all the pos sibilities out of the new service." Wife Asks Information Concerning Husband The Medford police depart ment has received a letter from Mrs. Eva Stark of Mt. Hood ask ing for information on the whereabouts of her husband, Charles "Porkey" Stark. In her letter, Mrs Stark stated that he is driving a 1947 Dodge and is probably working in the fruit. The police department urges anyone having information about Starkey to contact the de partment for an important mes sage.
