Return
Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Harder,
Old Stage road, have returned
from a three-day trip to San
Francisco. They were guests at
the St. Francis hotel during
their visit.
Dr. and Mrs. Elliott recently
returned home after spending
several months in travel abroad
They made the Bible land tour
of the Christian Herald of New
York. visiting 14 countries and
island groups. This includes Ma
deria, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon,
Syria, Jordan, Cyprus, Turkey,
Greece, Italy, France, Spain and
Portugal.
In addition to the usual sight
seeing programs the party visit
ed American missionary centers,
college and universities. In Israel
the group was greeted personal
ly by President Ben-Zevi.
Much time was spent in the
place where Jesus lived, taught
and preached and a highlight of
the tour was a sunrise Easter
communion service at Gordon's
Garden tomb in the suburbs of
old Jerusalem, near Golgotha,
or the Place of the Skull.
Despite rumors circulating in
this country, the members of
the Bible land tour encountered
no travel difficulties, a Christian
Herald release states, and they
witnessed no evidence of con
flict in any country visited. .
Progress in farming, manu
facturing and in living stand
ards was noted in some places
though much of the life in the
countries Jesus knew is about
the same as it was 2,000 years
ago, the release states.
The Elliotts spend a month
traveling in Canada, where Dr.
Elliott has many relatives, after
returning to this continent.
