BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS . MAPLE PARK WATER DISTRICT MEDFORD. OREGON Chessman's Book To Be Published San Quentin, Calif. (U.R) Convict author Caryl Chess man s second book is scheduled for publication next month, but mystery has developed over the manuscript. Chessman's publishers, Pren tice-Hall, announced in New York that the book, "Trial by Ordeal," will be published July 11. Chessman is scheduled to die in the San Quentin Prison gas chamber four days later. Warden Harley O. Teets con fiscated the only known manu script last March when Chess man tried to sign it over to his attorney, Rosalie Asher, for $1. Miss Asher has filed suit to re cover it. Teets said the eight-inch-thick manuscript is still in his safe. Moreover, he said Chessman "as sured us that the only manu script of the second book that has left his cell is the one we had locked up in the prison safe." "T niipstinn that tVio manu script in their possession is an exact duplicate of the one in my possession," he said. In New York, Prentice - Hall said it had received the manu script from Chessman's literary agent, Joseph Longstreth. The second book was to have been a sequel to Chessman's best-selling, "Cell 2455, Death Row."
