TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Plan Dinner For Class At West Side West Side The first eighth grade class to graduate from the new modern West Side school on Boss Lane will be honored at a potluck dinner Friday, May 27 j at 6 p.m., in the school gymna- sium. All West Side residents j are cordially invitea ana are asked to bring their own table service, desired drink for chil dren in their family and a ther mos of coffee if they wish it. Rolls and butter will be fur nished by the Mothers' club. West Side Cub Scouts will start the evening with presenta tion of the flag, followed by greetings from the principal, Mrs. Bertha Haskins. A short program will follow dinner with athletic awards given by the coach and upper grades teacher, George Marsters, who will also introduce his eighth grade grad uates who are Jim Clark, Dud ley Durant, Jim Frohnmayer and Gary Winetrout. Walter Graff, chairman, of the school board, will award the diplomas. Pupils of Edward Root will furnish special musical numbers and will also direct the school ban. The school chorus and sym phonet band, directed by Mrs. Corrine Robbins, will present a few numbers. Following the program, pa trons of the school and visitors are invited to visit the school rooms and view the work of the pupils which will be on display. Mrs. Haskins states that this will mark the closing of the school year for West Side school. The students will receive their report cards Friday afternoon. St. Mary's Classes To Hold Reunion Former students of the classes of 1933, 1934 and 1935 of St. Mary's school will meet at the school Sunday May 29th, be tween the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. for a reunion of their classes. There will be a program, by pres ent St. Mary's students, and re freshments will be served. Group to Attend Council Meeting Several Jackson county mem bers of home extension units plan to attend the annual meet ing of Oregon Home Economics Extension council to be held May 31 to June 2 at Corvallis, Ore. In the group will be nine women, including members of the Alumni committee and active members. Mrs. Azalea Sager, former state leader, will be on the pro gram opening day. Mrs. Sager will show pictures taken during a world tour during which she and Mr. Sager were away from this country for more than a year. At the annual banquet June 1, speaker will be Dr. Elmo Stevenson, president of Southern Oregon college, Ashland. Mrs. Leland M. Charley, Brownsboro, Ore., states that any woman interested in exten sion work is invited to attend the state meeting. Mrs. Charley is director of District 5, made up of Jackson, Josephine, Douglas, Curry and Coos counties. Mrs. Arnold Bohnert, Central Point, is chairman of the. public re lations committee. Bethel Council To Be Installed At Temple Tonight Central Point Installation of a new guardian council will take place at a meeting of Bethel 38, Job's Daughters, in Central Point Masonic temple tonight at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Everett Faber, vice-grand guardian of Oregon, and other grand council officers will conduct the ceremony. Parents of members and per sons of proper Masonic relation ship are invited to attend. The bethel exemplified the ritual for Central Point Masonic lodge last Wednesday. The Misses Doris Golden, Joyce Pest ka and Dora Ann Raab were invited. Escorted and honored were Mrs. Faber, William Bishop, master of Central Point lodge; S. W. Moore, 1416 West 10th street, won first place in an annual state Ameri can Legion auxiliary poppy pos ter contest, it was annouced this week by Mrs. Minnie Bryant, chairman of the poster contest for Medford. Mrs. D. M. Swin dler, Warrenton, poppy poster chairman for the state group, notified Mrs. Bryant and Miss Moore of the. award. In addition to being named first in the contest, Miss Moore also was given a SI 5 check. The contest is conducted annually in Medford schools. The Poster will be sent to Mi ami Beach, Fla., where in Aug ust during a national American Legion and auxiliary conven tion, the national winner will be selected. The national prize is $100. Mrs. Earl B. Bigalow is "the auxiliary president of this district. Men's Pair Wins Tourney at Camp Camp White Howard Boyd and Roy Pruitt won the third annual men's and women's pairs tournament of Camp White Vet erans Bridge club, the first time men have won this tourney. The tournament was played Friday and Saturday at camp, and the winners overall score was 249 points. Mrs. Richard Milestone and Mrs. Ben Todd were second with 248 and other winners were Mrs. Frank Baker and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson, third, 247; Dr. R. E. Cutts and Al Gil housen, fourth, 246,; Mrs. George Choate and Mrs. B. B. Hughes, fifth, 238V2 ; Mrs. S. W. Alcorn and Mrs. William Ken nedy, sixth, 237. The buffet supper followed play Saturday night. Mrs. Jack Love was chairman of the sup per committee, assisted by Mrs. Burton Sims, Mrs. Roy Pruitt and Mrs. E. K. Ricker. Mrs. Ricker arranged the table cen terpiece of spring flowers. Among the players were Dr. and Mrs.. R. E. Cutts. Portland, and Gen. and Mrs. J. P. Vachon, Shady Cove. Gertson, Hepp ner, Ore., state organizer of the Degree of Honor lodge, in spected Medford Junior Degree of Honor club at a special meet ing May 21 in Lincoln gymna sium. Darlene Morrow served as president for the meeting. Guests included Michael An horn, Central Po.int, Mrs. Gert son's grandson, and Victoria Breen of Medford. Two members were initiated during Mrs. Gertson's visit to the club, and she was presented a corsage. Peggy Billings read a letter from Seoul, Korea, thanking the club and Mrs. H. G. Wilson, the director, for a contribution to a school and hospital. The birthday song was sung in honor of Darlene Morrow, Gregory Wolf and Frances Schu chard. Mrs. Frances Settell as sisted Mrs. Wilson and served as secretary. Donna Kraue led the club marches and yell. Darlene Mor row and Loleta Bentley assisted Mrs. Wilson in serving refresh ments. Next meeting of the club will be June 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Hawthorne park. Former Student Of Eagle Point To Be Graduated Mrs. Lester Watkins, the for mer Norma Nadine Davies of Eagle Point, is a candidate to re ceive the bachelor of science de gree from Bob Jones university in Greenville, S.C. Graduation is planned for Rodeheaver audi torium on the campus June 1. Mrs. Watkins is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred E. Da vies of Eagle Point. At Boh Jones university she has been a mem ber of Charlotte Bronte Liter ary society, the university fiand and the University Oratorio so ciety. She has also served as sec retary of the Christian and Mis sionary Alliance Sunday School class. Mrs. Watkins' husband, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake E. Guest Here Mrs. Florine English, Rey nolds, Ga., is a guest in Medford of her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Padgham, 2707 Springbrook road. Mrs. English motored west with the Padghams' son, Second Lt. Henry Padgham, who has been stationed at Ft. Kilmer in Geogia. Lieutenant Padgham spent a leave with his parents here and then left Tuesday to report for duty.
