TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Piper-Monia Wedding Rites Held at Christian Church One of spring's large weddings was that of Miss Janet Rae Monia and the Rev. John Edwin Piper held last Sundayj May 15, in First Christian church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence V. Monia, 711 King street, and the bridegroom is a son of The Rev. and Mrs. William C. Piper, Oakdale drive, Medford. The bridegroom's father, who is pastor of First Christian church, officiated for the three o'clock afternoon service, and Mr. Monia gave his daughter in marriage. The Rev. James E. Piper, Mosier, Ore., twin broth er of the bridegroom, served as best man. For her wedding the bride wore a gown of nylon tulle over taffeta. The skirt was fashioned with panels of lace, and the gown was worn with a lace jacket. The gown was made by Rites Marry Miss Yortorv Cpl- Howard Prospect The Chapel In the Pines church at Prospect was the scene May 9 of the wedding of Miss Leone Evelyn Yorton and Cpl. Curtis Howard Miller. The young couple will live near Camp Pendleton, Calif., where the bridegroom is stationed with the Marine Corps. He recently returned from a year's service in the Far East. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Yorton and at tended Prospect high school. The bridegroom, a son of Ralph Miller of Harris, Calif., received his education in Eur eka, Calif. The Rev. L. T. Edwards, pas tor of the chapel which is the Prospect Church of the Nazar ene, read the double ring rites at 7 o'clock in the evening. About 60 guests attended. Mrs. William Gaines furnished the wedding music. The bride wore a ballerina length white embroidered' or gandy dress and her flowers were pink carnations. She was given in marriage by her father. Miss Rose Mary "Robertson, her honor attendant, wore a pink embroidered frock, also in ballerina length. William Caldwell served as best man. home of Mrs. Lewis Robertson home of Mrs. Lewis Ribertson and was attended by families of the wedding group. The couple made their wed ding trip south by coastal cities to Harris and will be at their new home after May 29. Couple, to Mark Golden Wedding Open house will be held Sun day, May 29 to mark the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Yarbrough. The event will be held at their home at 527 Haven street. MAIN EST. 1908 the bridegroom's mother. The bride's bouquet was of white carnations and the veil, designed by the bride, was of lace and tulle held with a cap trimmed with pearls. Miss Claudia Makinster, Til lamook, Ore., was honor attend ant. Her gown was of blue and she carried a bouquet of carna tions and net. Bridesmaids were Miss Joreta Hart, Vale, Ore., Miss Nancy Newton, and Miss Barbara Cook, both Medford. Miss Hart wore a lavender gown, Miss Newton's gown was green and Miss Cook .wore pink. All carried houquets of carnations and net which matched their coronets. Carole Monia, sister of the bride, and Betty Barker, a cou sin, Tillamook, lighted the candles. Carole wore an aqua marine frock and Betty's dress was pink and both wore wrist let bouquets of pink and aqua marine carnations. Vickie Wil son, niece of the bride, was flower girl and wore an orchid colored dress. Ushers were Bud Smythe, Burley, Ida., Jack Pettigrew, Prospect, and Charles Ferrell, Eugene. The bride s mother wore a light blue suit with blue and white accessories and a pink carnation corsage for the wed ding, and the bridegroom's mother was attired in a tan faille suit worn with red accessories and a red carnation corsage. Mrs. Ralph Matlack sang for the wedding, and Miss Sylvia iarson, aumner, wasn., was organist. The reception which followed was in the church parlor. Miss Eunice Greer, Medford, and Miss Connie Richardson, Eu gene, cut the wedding cake and pouring were Mrs. James Mc- Daniel and Miss Claire McClel land, Medford. Mrs. Darrell Wil son, sister of the bride, took charge of the guest book and Miss Katherine Gott and Miss Janet Boyington took charge of gifts. . Women of the church planned and assisted with the reception. Mrs. Clayton Simmons, Eagle Point, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. C. W. Anhorn, Central Point, made and decorated the wedding cake. Mrs. F. A. Daugh- erty decorated the church sanc tuary. Here for the' wedding were Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Barber and Betty, uncle and aunt of the bride, Tillamook; Mrs. Carrie Piper, grandmother of the bride groom, Portland; Miss Lucile Mickey, Portland, Miss Ann Mc- Kmney, Eugene. Saturday evening the bride's parents were hosts for a rehear sal dinner attended by members of the wedding party, relatives and friends here from out of the city. Both the Rev. Mr. Piper and his bride attended Northwest Christian college, Eugene, and many of the friends here for the wedding were schoolmates of the couple. May 22. 1953 The Rev. and Mrs. Stanford Announces Course In Connection With Festiva Stanford University Stan-1 ford university will present its second annual field course in Shakespeare this summer at Ashland, Ore., in connection with the Oregon Shakespeare festival. The course will be given from July 21 to August 5 by Professor Margery Bailey of the Stanford English department, who is di rector of the educational divi sion of the Festival association. She is an authority on . classic drama in production and an actress as well. The Festival association pro duces four Shakespearean plays each year " on an Elizabethan stage. This season, plays to be given in repertory style through out the month of August will be "Macbeth," "Midsummer Night's Dream," "Henry VI,' Part 3. and iAll's Well That End's Well." The plays will be acted in Tudor costume on the open-air stage, as they were originally done in the Globe theater in London. An hour-long radio broadcast of "Macbeth," supervised by An drew Love of NBC, wiil be scheduled for the national net work in August. The Stanford course will com bine concentrated lectures and special addresses with observa tion of both rehearsals and per formances and class demonstra tions of fencing, make-up, cos tume, and music. ' Besides Professor Bailey, lec turers will include Professor Angus L. Bowmer of Southern Oregon college, originator and director of the Festival. Richard Graham, master of classic make-up, Frank Pinnock, expert on Tudor sports, and Bernard Windt, authority on Elizabethan music, will be among the specialists demon- Mrs. Lionel Guy Named President Mrs. Lionel Guy was elected president of Ruth Esther Wes leyan Service guild at a meet ing held Tuesday at the First Methodist church. Mrs. Roy Gil bertson is the new vice-president; Mrs. George Reneker, secretary, Mrs. Clara Mall, treasurer, and Mrs. Marjorie Hopkins, promo tion secretary. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Melvin McGrew, Mrs. Rex Note and Mrs. George Howard. Mrs. Jesse Minear led the de votions and Mrs. Marjorie Hop kins reviewed the book, "Crowd ed Ways." Mrs. Everett Faber told of a recent trip to the Wes leyan Service guild conferences held in New York City. Medford Woman Returns from Trip Mrs. E. Roland Rice has re turned to Medford after a trip north to Yoncalla, Ore., Seattle and Spokane, Wash. She was ac companied by her daughters, Mrs. Charles F. Martin and two children of Yoncalla, and Mrs. David Shearer, Hood River. In Seattle they visited Mrs. Rice's mother and sister, and on Mothers' day four pairs of sisters in the familywere together. From Seattle they continued to Spokane to visit relatives and friends, the Rices having form erly lived in that city, and the return trip was by way of Hood River and Yoncalla. - Group Elects Ashland Neal Wyatt from Ashland, has been elected pres ident of Theta Delta Phi, men's scholastic honorary fraternity. Elected vice-president was Rich ard Dickenson, Medford; secretary-treasurer, Gene Brown, Ashland; and historian, William . Mearns, Medford. Outgoing pres-' ident is Don Ferguson, Ashland. John Edwin Piper strating stage arts. A special book, "Ashland Studies in Shakespeare," is pre pared annually for the students of the course. A collection of Shakespearean texts and rare Tudor books will be available for reference in a "Festival Col lection" at the Ashland Public Library. The course is open to college students and all persons over 16 years old with an informed in terest in the subject. . Registered college students may receive two quarter-term units of credit for the field course. In the case of college students fully matriculated, the Stanford English department will accept the hours for the A.B. and A.M. degrees. A tui tion fee of $35 is charged for the course. A potluck dinner at 6:30 was followed by a drill presented by the Sunshine girls. Those partici pating were Judith Tolle, Betty Kyker, Pamela Jackson, Joyce Youngberg, "Judy Harden, Mary Dodge, Anis Black, Layle Bost wick and Diane Taylor. The girls presented Mrs. Zacher with a gift which was wrapped as a large ruby in a gold wrapped setting. Officers were officially pre sented and given corsages. Hon ored were Mrs. Zacher, Mrs. Harry Bryant, grand senior; Mrs. Ann Brown, grand junior; Mrs. Ella Roper, past supreme repre sentative; Mrs. Mabel Erickson, past grand chief; and Mrs. Leroy Cline, district deputy grand chief. Final arrangements for district convention were announced. Mrs. Zacher spoke on the var ious phases of the obligation, and was presented a gift from the group. The other visitors each spoke a few words. ' A gift was won by Harry Barneburg. Refreshment committee for the evening was Mrs. Violet Jackson, Mrs. Mildred Tolle, Mrs. H. D. Howard arid Mrs. Joe Cook. Pythian club will meet at Girls Community club Tuesday at 8 p.m. Those attending are requested to take a sack lunch. Election Held Ashland Miss Jeannie Nor ton, junior from Coos Bay, has been elected president of Sigma Epsilon Pi, women's scholastic honorary at Southern Oregon college. Other officers elected: Miss Marilee Titus, Ashland, vice-president; Miss July Hall, Ashland, secretary; and Miss Au drey Russell, Myrtle Point, treasurer. Retiring president is Miss Lois Brooks, Lincoln Beach. $1298 $i.9S rice nenne s PHONE 2-7169 Singer Arrives To Visit Parents Miss Jean Farley arrived last week from San Francisco to visit her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ken neth Farley, Jacksonville high way, accompanied by Miss Ingerj Svendsen. Miss Farley, a lyric soprano, will remain until about June 15 when she will leave for Los Angeles to work toward her master's degree in music at the University of California at Los Angeles. Miss Svendsen plans to return home this week. Miss Farley, a Medford Senior High school graduate, also is a graduate of the College of Paci fic at Stockton, Calif., and before arriving here presented a concert there as a benefit for the Pacific Music Camp scholarship fund. She was accompanied by Dr. Dr. Robert Steinberg, San Fran cisco physician and pianist, who also furnished solo piano selec tions. Dr. Steinberg accompanied Miss Farley in a benefit concert which she presented here in 1953 in the spring. Proceeds from the concert furnished funds for two scholarships. Kiwanian Dames To Hold Picnic The executive board members of the Kiwanian Dames will en tertain members of the group at a picnic luncheon Tuesday, May -24, at the home of Mrs. H. Traveler Returns After Trip Abroad Mrs. Victor Bursell, Route 2, Beall lane, returned Wednesday from a tour of the Holy land and other, countries. She made the trip from New York City and returned accompanying Dr. and Mrs. Bert Elliott of Central Point-Jacksonville highway. The Elliotts are now en route home by way of Canada by train. The group left New York March 15 and arrived first at Tunis, North Africa, and from there went to Egypt, the Holy land, and later" visited Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain and France. They visited 15 countries. The ship on which they sailed for America left from Lisbon, Portu gal. The three were in the Holy land for Easter and that morning attended sunrise services at the tomb of Christ. Mrs. Bursell came west by train and visited at New Orleans, La., and Los Angeles. Chapter Honors Former President Mrs. Frances Olsen, Eugene, returned home last week end aft er spending a month here with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Coghill, 415 J street, her brother, Ike Dunford, Bellinger lane, and with Mrs. Flossie Monroe, Howard street. While here Mrs. Olsen was presented a 50-year pin from Ad arel chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in a special ceremony held at the Coghill home. Mrs. Olsen, now semi-invalid, was unable to attend chapter meetings. Mrs. Olsen, member of a well known Jackson county family, is a daughter of the late Mrs. Emma Dunford, who was matron of Adarel chapter in 1907, serv ing with Gus Newbry as patron. Mrs. Clyde Owings, Eugene, another daughter of Mrs. Olsen's, came to Medford for the week end and the two women made the return trip by air. .- Plan Contest Electa Social club members will conduct a baby picture con test at their next meeting Friday, May 27, at 1 p.m., at the Girls Community club.'
