Closing Dance Planned by Club Lively Rogues Dance club has planned the final dance of the season for Thursday, May 26, in the Ashland Elks ballroom. Din ner will be served at 7:30 p.m. The dance will be the annual spring informal event and sports' attire is appropriate, the com mittee states. A prize will be given to the man wearing the 'loudest"' shirt. Mr. and Hrs. Harvey Brandau and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Mc Ginty are the host committee. Election of officers will be held, and K. E. Hutchinson will give the report of the nominat ing committee. The retiring of ficers are Robert Church, presi dent; E. M. Anderson, vice-president; Mrs. R. K. Rians, secretary treasurer. Mrs. Frank Busch pre-j sided. Others named to office were Mrs. Jim Hopkins, senior vice - president; Mrs. Russell Stelle, junior vice - president; Mrs. Dale Sawyer, chaplain; Mrs. Ed Learning, treasurer; Mrs. John Collins, guard; Mrs. Ivan Hale, three-year trustee; Mrs. Reed McKay, conductress. Mrs. Birch appointed Mrs. Dan Krotz as secretary; Mrs. Francis Miller, patriotic instructor; Mrs. Robert Colpitts, historian; Mrs. Claude Close, Mrs. Ivan Hale and Mrs. John Loper, color bear ers. Mrs. McKay reported that Mrs. Dale Sawyer's team won a prize for collecting the most dues, and Mrs. Dan Krotz se cured the largest number of members for the year. Mrs. Jim Cassal gave a report on the Buddy poster project and displayed the posters made by pupils of the Elk-Trail school. ' Mrs. Dan Krotz, chairman for the community service scrap book, reported that the auxil iary had won honorable mention on the national level. Mrs. Ivan Hale reported that j Girl bcouts had given a tea lor their mothers, and the Brownie troops planned a flyup ceremony for May 20 at Shady Cove school. The fes tival is sponsored by the Phoenix Community club. The five girls, all members of the junior and senior classes, were chosen by members of the high school student body. The candidates are Sharon James, Donna Gearin, Dorothy Good, Sheyla Thompson, and Barbara Hendrickson. Girls Listed Miss James, a junior class member, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack James, Fern Val ley. Miss Gearin, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Gearin, South Pacific highway, Medford. Miss Good, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Good, Hollywood Orchards, Medford. Miss Hendrickson, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hendrickson, Edgevale Orchards, Medford. Basis Of Award The girls were chosen on the basis of scholastic achievements, initiative, and leadership. Each has played an outstanding part in school and community activi ties. The queen will be chosen May 28 before the festival parade. The other four girls will serve as princesses. Gold Hill Health Unit Holds Annual Picnic; Year's Work Reivewed Gold Hill The annual pic nic of Gold Hill Health unit was held at the home of Mrs. Carl Boye. Guests were Miss Dorothy Husky and Miss Dorothy Col lard of Jackson County Health department; Mrs. Leta Palmer, Arizona; Mrs. Agnes Gray and Mrs. Sayzille. Officers were re elected. They were Mrs. Melvin Burnett, president; Mrs. Les ter Parker, vice president; Mrs. Roy Cameron, secretary ? trea surer. The health department has re quested the unit to hold a spec ial meeting in June. The secre tary read a list of projects the unit has accomplished in the past year. This included the Christmas seal sale; mailing let ters for the cancer drive; assist ing in the March of Dimes, a rummage sale for benefit of the Southern Oregon Child Guid ance Clinic; assisting with TB tests at schools; making 14 nur ses aprons for the county health department and donations and gifts for various drives. ROBS BLINDMAN Jackson, Miss '(U.R) Eddie Howard assisted blind' James Brooks across the street, then robbed him of his billfold, police said today. Howard was captured a block away with the billfold. Police found Brooks still stand ing in'an alley with his hands in the air.
