Will Pep Picked Over Gil Cadilli Detroit (U.R) Willie Pep, the former featherweight cham pion, ruled a slight favorite over Gil Cadilli today for their 10 round "grudge" rematch tonight at Olympic which will be tele vised nationally. The 32-year-old Pep dropped a disputed decision to Cadilli at Parks Air Force Base, Calif., two months ago. He's anxious for revenge because "I figure I won that first fight." Webfoots, Beavers Tie For Second in Division Corvallis (U.R) Oregon State defeated Oregon 6-1 in tennis yesterday to gain a tie for second place with the Webfoots in final Northern Division stand ings. The Oregon Frosh gained some solace for the Eugene campus by downing the OSC Rooks 5-2. Pirates Still Losers But Over Batting Slump Cincinnati (U.R) The Pir ates have lost six games in a row but at least they've "emerged" from their batting slump. The runs they scored in Tues day night's 9-2 defeat at the hands of Cincinnati represented their highest total in the last five games. Red Sox Finally Beat . Tribe Again at Fenway Boston (U.R) Everything comes to those who wait. The Red Sox, for example, had to wait more than a year to beat the Indfans at Fenway Park. Boston won Tuesday, 10-3. The last previous Red Sox triumph over the Trbe occurred Sept. 10. 1953. SUDS OPTION KRSNICH Seattle (U.R) Rocky Krsnich, third baseman, was optioned to the Tulsa club of the Texas League yesterday by the Seattle Rainiers of . the Pacific Coast League. The move was to make room on the roster for Lou Or tiz, newly acquired infielder from the Philadelphia Phils. COURT COMPLETED Astoria (U.R) Court for the Astoria regatta has been com pleted with the selection of Pa tricia Morrison as the third prin cess. Other princesses selected were Carol Leicht and Susan Randoz. One of the girls will reign as queen of the regatta next month. All three are stu dents at Astoria high school. BEARCATS TOP PIONEERS Portland (U.RJ Willam ette's tennis team took a 6-1 de- i cision yesterday from Lewis and I Clark here. The Bearcat golf team also won over the Pioneers 11-7. (U.R) The Portland Pilots won a baseball twin bill from St. Martinos Col lege here yesterday, 4-3 and 4-2. Both were seven inning games. Talent Baseballers Leave for Moro Game Talent TaUnt high bast ball players left at noon today for Moro where they will play for the right to enter the stale B baseball tournament. The game will be on Thursday. Talent, defending stale co champion, won the District 5B mantle again, while Moro was rictor in District 6. Washington Edges OSC By UNITED PRESS Northern Division baseball teams have today and Thursday off before resuming action giv ing the two Oregon teams time to get ready for a show- down battle for the 1955 title. Oregon and Oregon State meet in twb games this week end plus two next week with the division title riding on the outcome. The Beavers will have to snap back from a two-game losing streak to beat the Ducks to the crown. Yesterday, Washington edged OSC in Seattle, 6-5, for the Bea vers second defeat in a row at the hands of the Huskies. Wash ington was outhit 12-8, but OSC couldn't jell them when needed. Shady Cove Voters Pass School Budget School officials at Shady Cove today pointed out that an elec tion in the Shady Cove school district Monday was reported in correctly to The Mail Tribune. The election was on approval of the rural school budget, and yesterday's report indicated it failed to pass in Shady Cove. Actually, it was reported, the vote was 44 in favor of the bud get and 18 against, with the num ber of those casting votes the largest in any recent school elec tion except on bond issues. Shady Cove voters also ap proved a special S500 school dis trict levy, at the same time. Voters were circularized be fore the election, and school ad ministrators attributed the un usually large vote to this. They said they are hoping for even a better turnout for the election of three school directors June 20. U S EXCLUDED IN TRADE Tokyo (U.R) The Trade Min istry has allocated $18,800,000 for the import of 100,000 bales of raw cotton from Russia and dol lar areas, excluding the United States. MEDfORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE NIN on Detroit Police End Scheduled Gang Fight Detroit (U.R) Police today held 37 teen-aged youths after nipping in the bud what threat ened to be the "biggest gang fight in Detroit's history." The youths were rounded up last night by 30 police who rush ed to the scene after they were tipped by two anonymous callers that the battle had been sched uled. The callers told police a group of high school students, angered over a beating of a fellow stu dent by a street gang last week, had challenged the gang to fight. Police arrived on the scene shortly before the first carload of nine teen-agers pulled up. Car loads of youths continued to pour into the area where the fight was scheduled for several hours after the first arrests, police said. Unmasked Bandits Take Sum From Bank Hot Springs, N.C. (U.R) Two unmasked bandits locked a bank manager and a customer in the vault today and escaped with an estimated $19,500 in North Caro lina's third bank robbery of 1955- The FBI reported the robbery in this small town happened at a branch of the Citizens Bank of Marshall. Federal agents said bank man ager Joe Tilson and an unidenti fied customer were locked in the bank vault by the bandits. Authorities nonethe less sent him Monday to the penitentiary. PAY INCREASE SIGNED Salem (U.R) Gov. Paul Patterson has signed the bill to increase salaries of Supreme Court justices from $12,000 to $13,500 a year and those of Cir cuit Court judges from $10,500 to $11,000.
