I'm sure that what my doctor thinks is "arthritis' is really rheumatism, because it acts so much like what my mother had before the days of arthritis . . . (Mrs. N. C. G.) Mrs. G. is not quite so patron izing as a good many others who are mildly amused by my re marks concerning chronic joint disability, but she makes it plain that she doesn't take my teach ings or advice seriously. The lady informs me that she "tried" some capsules for two whole weeks and could not see that they did any good. Evident ly she assumes I recommended the capsules. I didn't. This is a bowling day, so I'm Police, Aid Car Save Woman's Life Burns, Ore. (U.R) State police from Ontario and Burns with the help of a special Red Cross car from Boise were credit ed today with helping to save the life of a Burns woman. A hospital spokesman said Mrs. Agnes Kennedy, wife of Donald Kennedy, needed an emergency transfusion after an operation early yesterday. However, the hospital's week ly quota of blood from Boise was exhausted and the hospital was unable to contact donors. The Boise blood center was con tacted and a Red Cross car was dispatched with four pints of blood. The Red Cross car was met at the Oregon border by an Ore gon stale patrolman operating out of Ontario. He sped the blood supply to Juntura. There another Oregon state police offi cer from Burns transferred the supply to his vehicle and rush ed it to the Burns hospital. The entire operation from the onset of the emergency to the delivery of the life - saving blood took only three hours. The woman is expected to live and was listed as improving. The distinction between what I call rheumatiz and what most joint disability patients and their doctors call arthritis is this: Rheumatiz is physical de generation, and arthritis is infla mation of the joint. In most in stances of joint disability of more than a year's duration there is no evidence of inflama tion, hence it is a mistake to treat it as arthr-itis (joint in flamation). Now, please, if you are subject to joint disability, don't assume that I recommend a remedy. I j don't.
