TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Thursday. May 12. 1955 Gold Hill Groups To Hold Carnival Gold Hill A carnival spon sored by the local IOOF and Re bekah lodges will be held in the IOOF hall Friday night to raise money to help finance the dis trict Rebekah meeting here Wednesday, June 15. The carnival will include a cake walk and an auction of usable household goods and other items brought by those at tending. A hand made bedspread will be given away during the evening. Various booths will award prizes, and refreshments will be served during the carnival. Mrs. Fred Lester, is noble grand of the Rebekah lodge and Glenn Miller is noble grand of the IOOF lodge here. The Rebekah district meeting which will meet here next month includes Jackson and Josephine counties. Visitors Here. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carpen ter, who arrived in Medford last weekend to visit relatives and friends here, plan to return to their home in Carmel, .Calif., next Monday. The couple visited first with Mrs. Carpenter's sis ter, Mrs. H. Chandler Egan, Foothills road, and are dividing the remainder of the time, in the homes of other relatives and friends. Clothespins need an occasion al dunking in soapy water so they won't soil clothes. Camp White Clgb Announces Dates For Tournament Camp White Camp White Bridge club has announced a men's and women's pairs tourna ment for May 20 and 21 at camp. Master points were awarded at the last meeting of the club. The north-south winners were Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Al Gilhousen, first, 168 points; Mrs. Fred Pur din and Mrs. Marie Rehling, sec ond, 166Vi; Mrs. S. W. Alcorn and Mrs. Rrank Baker tied with Mr. Boyd and George Choate for third and fourth, both pairs scor ing 15$ points. A buffet supper was served following the play by Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Ricker, assisted by Mrs. Burton Sims. North-south winners the pre ceding week were Mrs. Boyd and Tom Munds, first, 107V& points; Mrs. Frank R. Baker and Wil liam Kennedy, second, 106; Mrs. R, J. Conroy and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson, third, 104; Mrs. T. J. Fuson and Mr. Gilhousen; fourth, 98 points. East-west winners were Mr. Fuson and John Sharp, first, 104; Mrs. Alto Pruitt and Walter Grow, second, .100; Mrs. Dean and Arthur Scarseth, third, 93 ; Mrs. C. E. Mothers Honored At Tea Tuesday , In Rogue River Rogue River More than 150 girls and their mothers attended the annual Rogue River High school Mother-Daughter tea in the gymnasium Tuesday after- ! noon. Cake and tea were made and served by members of the home economics class, and decorations were, those used at the annual Junior-Senior prom last Friday night. While the daughter and their mothers were attending the tea, an intra-mural track meet was held for boys. Juniors won the meet, with sophomores second, seniors third and freshmen fourth. - - 4 Miss Ina Feero Is Girl of Term Ashland Miss Ina Feero, freshman from Roseburg, has been awarded the "Girl of the Winter Term" title by the Asso ciated Women Students of Southern Oregon college, accord ing to the AWS president, Miss Beth Eskew, Gold Hill. Miss Feero was given her cup signifying the honor by Miss Mary Lee Ford, North Bend, "Girl of the Fall Term." Miss Feero was chosen for her work in the college production of "The Mikado," her work with the Sweetheart's ball. Freshman class, and Susanne Homes hall dances, and her activity as sec retary of the social committee. The event will be sponsored by the Ladies Mount ed troop, auxiliary to the Jack son County Mounted Sheriff's posse. Those attending the dinner should take a covered dish and table service and families are invited to attend together. Cof fee and rolls will be furnished. The play day is also open to spectators and no charge will be made for any of the day's activi ties with the exceptions of entry fees for those participating in games and races, those in charge announce. . About 20 events will be on the program and on the competitive games and races the entry fees will be awarded to the three top winners who also will receive ribbons. The show is scheduled to begin about 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Clarence Dodge is cap tain of the troop and in charge of the Sunday event is the rides committee. They are Miss Mon tana Emerson, chairman, Mrs. Roy Vague, Mrs. Sam Keim, Mrs. Lillian Hanscom, Miss Beverly Nelson and Mrs. Glenn Martin. Frank Wooldridge and Harry Furch will be the judges and Pat Murphy will do the announcing for the show. Paulette and Jim my Vague will award the rib bons. Medford Trail Riders will give an exhibition of "square danc ing" on horseback. Events on the program will in clude matched pairs; pleasure horse class; Texas barrel, potato, balloon, boot, stake and baton races, and other games. T,he junior posses and Rogue Rangers, youth groups, will par ticipate in the events.. The Jun ior troop expects to conduct a polo. game. Members of the troop and posse drill team will meet for their first practice at 10 a.m., preceding the dinner and play day. SOC Choir Vlans ' Concert Friday Ashland The program for the Southern Oregon college concert by the College choir Friday eve ning, May 13, has been an nounced by Choir Director Cjscar Bjorlie. The concert Friday at 8 p.m. comes at the close of a week-long tour by the choir to Glendale, Myrtle Point, Bandon, Port Or ford, Gold Beach, Brookings and Illinois Valley. The program will feature tenor solos by James Baker, Medford, accompanied by Miss Judy Hall, Jacksonville, r and a male quartet made up of Mr. Baker, Merle Deets, Dick Bon ney and Lyman Pruitt. Bon ney, Grants Pass, has been elected president of the South ern Oregon College Mothers' club following Mothers' week end at the college May 7. Mrs. Bonney is the mother of Dick Bonney, SOC student. Mrs. Ralph Gilbert, mother of Ralph James Gilbert, Roseburg, was elected vice-president", and Mrs. Herman Renfro, mother of Carl Renfro, Grants Pass, was elected secretary-treasurer of the group. Retiring Mothers' club presi dent is Mrs. P. J. Gardner, Ashland. Meeting Planned By Extension Unit Willow Springs Willow Springs Home Extension unit will hold its last meeting of the year Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community . Club House. The lesson, "How to Live 'In Twenty-four Hours a Day" will be .given by Miss Eula Winter- mote. Luncheon 1 will be served. Those attending are asked to bring table service. UN Chapter-" Discussion of the use of the hydrogen and atom bomb in warfare will feature a meeting of the Medford chapter, Oregon United Nations, to be held to night at the courthouse audi torium. The meeting is set for 8 p.m. and anyone interested is in vited to attend. Last Meeting Set By Mothers' Club Griffin Creek Griffin Creek Mothers' club will hold the last meeting of the school year Friday, May 13, in the school cafeteria at 1:30 p.m." A program will be presented by Griffin Creek kindergarten under the direction of Mrs. James Edge and Mrs. Floyd Mode. Officers for the coming year will be elected. Refreshments will be served by mothers of children in the first grade. Child care will be provided for preschool children, and those needing transportation are asked to call 2-7748. Great Pocahontas To Visit Medford " Mrs. Ruth Pavock, great poca hontas of Pocahontas lodge for California, will visit the local lodge Friday, May 13. Initiation will be held at the meeting, slated to begin at 8 p.m. . Mrs. James Walker is decora tions chairman and women at tending are asked to take home made pies for the refreshments. The public card party planned by Wenonah club for that night har been postponed until May 20 according to an announcement by the president, Mrs. Audie White. Wilson, director ef the Junior Degree of Honor an nounced today, that the 'club's meeting set for May 14 has been postponed. The club will meet instead on Saturday, May. 21, at Lincoln gymnasium for the year ly inspection by Mrs. Clara Gert son, state director.
