Book Belonging To Missing Berkeley Youngster Pinole, Calif. U.R) The finding of a schoolbook belong ing to Stephanie Bryan the first real clue to her disappear ance spurred the police and sheriff's deputies to new efforts today in their search for the missing girl. The schoolbook, issued to Ste phanie in her French class at the Willard Junior High school, was found in field off the Franklin Canyon road, about three miles from its junction with Highway 40 near Pinole. Found Near Fence David Tyree, 67, of San Pab lo, accidentally saw it lying near a barbed wire fence on the south side of the highway last Thurs day. He picked it up, but thought no more of the book until yes terday when he read of Sun day's unsuccessful mass search for the girl. ' - Stephanie disappeared on April 28 while walking from school to her Bergeley home. Her parents believed she was kidnaped. On the following day, eight witnesses said they saw a girl answering Stephanie's descrip- tion struggling with a man driv j er in an auto on Tunnel Road near Orinda. After reading of the case in the newspapers, Tyree thumbed through the book and found Stephanie's name in the back. (U.R) Drilling in Malheur county will start soon on a new exploratory well for gas and oil, Ray Ranger, Texas oil man who will do the drilling, said today. The site of the new shaft will be 10 miles north of Vale. It will be done in cooperation with the Oroco Oil and Gas Co., which struck gas in commercial quanti ties in a well near New Ply mouth, Idaho on April 26.
