INTERESTING ' BIRMINGHAM NEWS Anti-rabies inoculation "clin ics" will be held in 13 Birming ham neighborhoods, says a news paper item (no date) from Bir mingham, Ala., and the county rabies inspector I swan, they must have the racket working almost auto matically now. the county rabies inspector reminds dog owners that the shots are mandatory by law. Clinics, charging $1 per inocula tion, will be open rain or shine. Birmingham. That's the place known as the "rabies capital of North" America." I hate to bring it up again, I really do, because both Birming ham authorities who said the city was so known were", I be lieve sincere when they conclud ed their report of their long ex perience with the rabies prob lem with a statement that "Rabies is primarily a vet erinary problem. Regardless of its prevalence among dogs, it will probably never cause suf ficient morbidity of mortality PickiiV Pears News and Notes From Camp White ' By SID HOLLINGSWORTH Chaplain Henry W. Anderson is a figure who will be missed for some time to come at Camp White."'. His last sermon was preached at the chapel last Sun day. He reports this week for his new assignment-at the VA Hos pital at Vancouver. . Chaplain Anderson is known to regret leaving this commun ity. He has an attractive home in xown-and his wife has been teach ing in' the grade school at Cen tral Point. He accepts the transfer in line of duty both to . the service and to his religious principles. His firm belief in the evangelical school will continue to carry him along the highway of life. He in culcated his second tenet firm ly in the hearts of the members in his belief in Christian fellow ship,, and the friendly spirit pervading the camp during the six years he has been here is in large part due to his ability to practice what he preaches. He will miss the opportunity to fish in the Rogue -valley streams, but he will undoubtedly find others as well stocked over in Washington state, and in the vicinity of Portland. Chaplain Anderson saw serv ice in both world wars and was with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Medford district for six years.' He carries a 20 year service pin which he received two years ago. His military rec ord includes 16 months in France as a corporal of engineers in WW I and as an Army chap lain during WW II. He served in this country - and in New Guinea and the Philippines and was discharged at Ft. Lewis with the rank of lieutenant colonel. The new chaplain for Protes tants is the Rev. Albert S: Feller who comes here from the Rose burg VA hospital. MAN'S BODY FOUND Searchlight, Nev. (U.R) The body of a man, tentatively identified as Frank Day, 48, of Newport, Ore., has been found in his car. five miles north of here. State highway patrol men said he apparently took his own life by inhaling fumes from the car. WHAT? NOT Picture Shrinking? Fading? Fuzzing? Well, picture problems are our business. If the 20,000 dogs in Birming ham are duly inoculated with whatever the racketeers think is good for 'em, the dog catcher or the health department, which ever runs the racket,, ought to be pretty happy. - You poor frightened people haven't noticed, I imagine, that the periodic scares drummed up by. publicity hungry health au thorities are generally based on fears or rumors that a "mad" 1 dog is loose in the community 1 and published warnings to hypo thetical victims to report at once to the health department.
