Just looking at his . station wagon from the outside, you'd never suspect he could load ell that stuff into it. Of course, he had to remodel the interior. Seats Removed He took out the middle and back seats and built a bunk of plywood about 10 inches above the car floor. In the rear, he used plywood for racks and compart ments around the refrigerator and wedged a tank of liquid pe troleum gas next to it. The-sailboat, a collapsible job, is stowed under the bunk. Nearby is the portable radio with a time rthat turns it off au tomatically. Sterner can plug .the radio into the car loudspeaker or into andther speaker he in stalled on the back flap of the station wagon. "We use that speaker when we're eating outside," he said. . The table on which he and his wife dine is a type that unfolds, benches and all. He stores it above the spare tire. The tire itself serves a dual purpose. Sterner keeps it over- inflated so he can use the excess air to blow' up his air mattress at night. He installed screens over the windows of the two back doors and built storage compartments under the front seat and the dash. There's even an umbrella fastened to. the firewall near the heater.
