No one is calling them "Bou

worth noticing today that the
first five hitters in the Kansas
City lineup have smashed 17
homers as many as any other
American League team has made
altogether.
There is power in the top of
that lineup and not just Vic
Power, either. He's the leadoff
man with three homers, but look
what comes after him. Bill Ren

homers then comes Jim'Finigan
with four, Gus Zernial with four
and Bill Wilson with three.
And to make the joy run full
cycle for Kansas City fans there'
a home-grown sore-armed pitch
ing castoff from the Cardinals,
Cloyd Boyer, who hurled the A'i
to their third straight triumph,
6-2, over Boston Wednesday.
Boyer gave up three hits and
received fine support from Ren

homers, Zernial's coming with
two men on base.
Tied With White Sox
The only other crew with as
many homers is the White Sox

Tag Team Championship
Claimants Mix Saturday
Two tag team championship I
claimants will clash in the mixed
tag team wrestling match head
lining Saturday nighfi card at
Merrick's arena here.
Champ Thomas, former Den
ver prizefighter who has met
with exceptional success in tha
wrestling ring, and Bonnie Bart
less, herself a former boxer, will
team up against Yoggi Hussane
and Gerry Hunter, both well
known to local mat bugs.
Thomas and Miss Bartlett
claim the Rocky Mountain tag
team championship while Hus
sane and Hunter claim the Texas
championship. Whether Rocky
Mountain or Texas wrestling,
tag team sylte, is the better will
be settled in the 30-minute, two-out-of-three-fall
match.
Promoter Mack Lillard said
that under no conditions will a
man be permitted to wrestle a
woman. If a man tags his part
ner, the other man- must prompt
ly leave the ring and the women
will wrestle, Lillard said. He
added that the referee will be
instructed to promptly disquali
fy a team who fails to obey that
rule. Other than that, regular
tag team rules will prevail.
Two other matches complete
the program, to start at 8:30 p.m.
Cyclone Cobb, a favorite with
local fans, returns after a week's
absence to mix with Joe Hahn,
Portland fireman, in the middle
match. The opener sends new
comer Logger Porter of Wash
ington against Larry Presnell,
Portland policeman. Porter is
the big man who tangled with
Hussane last week when Porter
was introduced from the ring.

Need to Conserve Wildlife To Be

Portland Though the wea
therman may not be indicating
it in some areas of the state,
spring has arrived.
This means one thing to the
wild birds, that it is time to
nest. It also is the most danger
ous time of the year for them.
Though winter weather often
works more hardships on them,
predators take their toll now,
according to the Oregon State
Game Commission.
Among some of the worst
predators on nests are free run
ing domestic cats and dogs. They
not only make a meal of the
nesting birds, but if they don't
catch the bird, they destroy the
nest.
Fall hunting populations of
game birds are dependent on
good spring crops of young ones.
Disturbed nests don't make for
good crops of young birds.
The game commission has
urged all pet owners to keep
their animals from roaming the
fields for the next few months
and give the birds a chance to
raise their families.

"Baseball drew 18 million paid

scheduled to start Saturday
at the lake but there is still
six inches of ice on the lake
and four feet of now at the re

He tried lo get into the lake
yesterday and couldn't make

to try.
The resort operator said
that he would report when
conditions improve enough to
permit access to the lake.
Another popular fishing
spot. Squaw lake, is slated
also for a Saturday season
opening. However, Bert Harr,
resort owner, also advised
against fishermen trying to
get into the lake for a few
days. He said that some sun
shine would be needed to melt
snow and permit use of a
road grader.
Portland (U.R) A good por
tion of Oregon's 300,000 anglers
are expected to take to the
streams Saturday morning for
the opening of the 1955 trout

Rock Creek reservoirs. Several
other major lakes in national
forests will open this weekend,
including Blue, Crescent, Odell
and Suttle in the Deschutes na

the Rogue national forest.
(Ice and snow may prevent a
Saturday opening at Fish lake).

per day, not more than five of
which may be 12 inches or over,
and 20 fish in any seven consecu

zones 1 and parts of zones 3 and
